I stopped completely looking/weighing these awhile ago. I guess I came to the conclusion that my luck is not good enough and focused on errors and rarities that had a more realistic chance of running across. I commend anyone who has the patience to weigh all these they find. Somewhere in the back of my pea brain I wonder if ones been through my dirty paws....but then as Michael states with his data....its really rare... almost impossible. Given the true numbers of these out there, there are way more life long collectors who have been searching pennies for decades that will never hold one. I get satisfaction from looking for things I can identify "easily" and more importantly, accurately. I would go nuts never finding one with the odds like that. I like finding die chips and things you can find in random change on occasion. But as always, to each their own and thats what makes this hobby cool!!!!

What does anybody think about this? it weighs 3.11 g and the tops align as well as the bottom. Is the alignment of the nine and eight on the top and bottom the only other Factor other than wait to authenticate this?

Buy yourselves one of these, then you will have 7 of 8 (9 if you count the proof) varieties for 1982. Don't worry about the 82 D small date copper, you won't find one. 20190121_095337_HDR~2.jpg

If you get lucky, you will cut out one and it will be very nice, like the upper left. An 82 LG date copper, EDS,
improperly mixed alloy (a woody) 20190203_205732_HDR~3.jpg

Think of all the time you will save yourself! Look for conditional rarities (I.e., high grade with eye appeal), not the white whale 82 D copper, IMO.

So are the 1982 no mint mark small date copper pennies worth anything more than a penny?
