Before you say," its zinc, the copper is missing" I will say first: it's not rough like zinc, especially not like the way Zinc would look after suggested methods of copper removal had taken place..its color is that of a war nickel.

Take your own advice, buy some guides on coins or send it in to one of the third party graders.

I understand you are the expert. Please share what the coin weighs and what you feel the coin is made of.

You can't compare it to the 1943 Cent. That one was minted on a steel planchet. It is ferromagnetic so it sticks to a magnet. You can rule out your cent in question being steel because it won't stick to a magnet.

Ok dips, I had it next to the steel penny so as to give a color comparison! Dont let me crack your fragile little shells over it!

Also @ldhair please explain to me how to remove copper while leaving the "zinc" in such good shape. Copper has a higher melting point than zinc, I should add. So please explain it to me. I will pop some popcorn...

It was next to a steel penny for color comparison. Dont assume I was thinking it as a steel penny suddenly first discovered! Try decaf!

Whatever the coin be or not be, I like the look of it but, may I ask... are you trying to push buttons and get off on the wrong foot? Doesn’t seem like the most intelligent step to take.

More likely to be a zinc coated cent if it isn't just a discolored normal cent. It would have the characteristics of the 43 zinc coated cent ( done very frequently as a chem lab experiment).

desertgem posted the best answer above. If you have a better idea of what caused this, please post it. I believe the coin is just damaged. I believe there are un-plated blanks but I don't think this is one.

There are finite ways that errors or varieties can be created by the Mint; yours is not one. There are infinite ways that post-mint damage can happen to a coin; yours is one, but how it got that way is a matter of speculation.

Keep looking though! Keep asking questions and learning the difference between the two.

Haha, to answer your question, I said what i said, just as I do when entering any new forum community as a means of finding the guys from whom I rather would not hear from in the future. It's just something I have always done. Works like a charm too! But I am all done now, and have found the correct fellas to ignore.
Was only pushing buttons to weed out those most likely to throw out biased, or heavily opinionated comments in the future. I apologize if I have made your forum experience less desirable. Like I said, I am done with all of that now.
