can anyone help identify this coin? It’s labeled as a Ravenna Quaittrino Benedict XIV, but upon looking at NGCs website it doesn’t appear to be that. Thanks in advance!
Well, the Italian States section of the 1700s Krause guide is a like 100 pages long, so it would take some doing to search for it by picture. I checked on Ravenna (Papal States) and the quattrino is listed as starting in 1744. I'm assuming the Roman numeral is the date--1701. Maybe a weight and diameter would help narrow it down.
Found something similar to your coin at this website...Link: http://www.rhinocoins.com/ITALY/SCHIESA2/BENEXIVR.HTML
Thanks so much! Got a collection of 474 coins in and this was the first one that was labeled incorrectly. I wouldn’t know where to start with so little on the coin itself.
I have seen some Italian coin weights, but they were smooth on one side. Were the Papal coin weights minted on both sides. Of course for silver and gold coins.
