Hello Everyone, I just have a coin I need you to review! I just got to it acouple days ago but I had it for a year or so. I sent pictures to other of the coin but they do not see what I see or they just do not want to believe its true. The coin in a 1944 Steel Penny S mint mark overdate 1943. You can see behind the date the scratch cloud and the S mint mark is smeared. else the 3 is not from the same strike. Now behind the date and the cloud you can see 1944 atleast the tops of the 4's. Please tell me what you think!
Hi - glad you took my suggestion to post it here. I'll let others reply with info on your 43-S Steel Cent.
Welcome to CT. We get a lot of unconventional questions here. First if this were a 1943 cent struck on a 1944, how would they have gotten the 1944 cent in 1943. Second, is it magnetic? No 1944 cents were.
I have no idea and its hard on my computer to see the photos. I do see a top of a "4" though. My question is why the hell someone would change a coin for a multi thousand dollar coin to a few cent coin?
This one sentence quoted from you tells me you have already made up your mind. And if it was Fred you first showed it to, then you got an honest answer. If you are convinced, your next step would be to submit to a TPG for examination. Best of luck on this.
A 1944 steel cent is worth big bucks but a 1944 converted to a 1943? What's the value in that? When I try to enlarge on my cell phone it gets too blurry to see. But then, I can't get over the pricing. I think you have a 1943-S that the steel has been affected and makes it look like an 4 under the 3, like in small bumps in the correct places. I just can't see the coins surface clear enough. Welcome to CT.
I see what you feel is a 4, but it is just a random mark that resembles the top of a 4. It isn't even the same size as the digits in the date.
Not sure of any overdates for this series. But since it is clearly a 1943 steelie, as Kentucky mentioned, if it were an overdate it would have to be over 1942. Yours is a time machine coin. Not possible.
yes its magnetic. The coin had to been scratched by the engraver just as they did for other overdate coins. Nobodies heard of it! Ok! Yes but who says this is not one then!
ok! Thanx everyone! Can anyone tell me what this is then. 1988 penny and its not magnetic! I can not see cracking or peeling.
