Man those 2009 are hard to find in your area WOW! I think in 2009 they flooded South Texas with them. I have found two rolls of 2009D in a box before

This just like the 54s has some different doubling than usual.

    What to look for

Just like the 54s doubling can be found on the reverse. On the right side of the Monticello doubling is easily seen below the steps. The 54s has it on the left. The 54D has it on the right. Last summer I bought some dateless from a dealer for 25 cents each. After acid treatment on the mintmark area, I found a type 1 D & S! For 25 cents each! Still possible. But I've given up on finding a 1950D in circulation.

Now that's a heck of a deal! Yeah the 1950D are tough but they are out there.

Yea the 1950Ds are there. I was lucky and found one before I found a 1950P. That one came in pocket change

It always feels good to find something straight from pocket change. Like it was supposed to happen :)

I’ve bought about 700 dateless buffalos for about 15-20 cents apiece. I got it in my mind I wanted to put together a low grade set so I bought a bottle of nic-a-date and had hours of fun. I’m 8 coins short including the 3 legged buff. Only missing the ‘13s type 2 for the 1913’s. I can’t always get the mint Mark to come out but I’m happy with the progress.

I know there is some controversy over using anything to get a date as it is considered damage but I can’t help but feel that by taking a dateless coin and bringing the date back to life, it is an improvement. I’m never going to try and pass one of as unaltered and each one is like a little present as it is revealed. DDNG you are certainly finding a lot more buffs than I ever get in boxes. I’ve found two in my time searching.

Yeah I plan to do that to all the buffalos I pull from this 500 box quest. I'm sure I will have a bunch of dateless buffalos to nic-a-date at the end of it all. Would like to see how close I get to completing a buffalo set after 500 boxes searched.

Hmmm...I’m wondering how many Buffalo I’ve found. It would give me an estimate on the number of boxes I’ve hunted through. I’m 16 nickels short of a Buffalo set.

I think you answered your own question, "Wondering how many Buffalo I've found." and "I'm 16 nickels short of a Buffalo set." That should tell you how many you've found, number in a set minus 16 = how many you've found.

Sorry - context for the thought was found in the preceding posts. I have found a few rolls of Buffalo, some with dates and some without. The total population of finds would indicate the approximate number of boxes I've searched. The math: I've typically averaged 1 Buffalo per 1.5 boxes searched so with that in mind, I should be able to extrapolate a box count figure to compare to DDNG's challenge (500 boxes). I'm sure I haven't searched 500 boxes to get within 16 Buffalo of a complete circulation set (less the 3-legged variety). So during the challenge, I'd expect that DDNG would be within that difference (not factoring in location, location, location). He may get significantly closer being centrally located in the country.

Alright guys we are in the top 5 and this one is a absolute beauty. I have never pulled one of these CRH but it is on my list to find.

    What to look for

Doubling can be seen very easily in "Liberty" as well as very nice splits in "1946". With this particular variety every nickel will have die damage as shown in the photo. Another really nice error. A lot of these war time silver nickels have minor varieties but we will focus on the most recognized in this list.

    What to look for

Very easy doubling is found in "Monticello" and as well as "Cents" but doubling is found throughout all lettering on the reverse. Screenshot_2019-11-20-11-55-56-1.png Screenshot_2019-11-20-11-56-10-1.png Screenshot_2019-11-20-11-56-17-1.png Screenshot_2019-11-20-11-56-22-1.png
