Actually the eMail address is right in her member profile that you can access without even logging in. Just click on her name in the thread near the top of the page. I'm relieved but not back in yet.
Roger Burdette is a well-respected numismatic expert...can't believe PCGS would treat him shabbily if the reports are true.
I was able to change my password successfully today. Using the link, and waited a few minutes for the email, to finish the change.
I don't think it has anything to do with old email addresses in most cases. My email address hasn't changed since I signed up. I know a couple of other members going through the same problem that also have their same email address. I don't have a clue why some are able to reset their password and others, like us, aren't. I thought that maybe the PCGS account password might be tied in with the forum password. I was able to change that, but it had no effect on the ability to login to the forum.
There is a note from Heather, their hosting provider was breached and out of a abundance of caution, they are forcing a password reset on all accounts.
The roll-out on this has been terrible ... Most of time, when a site does this, there is an automatic email so that you can make the change. Here, is there is nothing. I have contacted the account person. Still nothing. I'll give then another couple of days. If I can't get on, I'll just delete the site from my list of regular contacts. It's really disappointing to have things end this way after over 27,000 posts.
The optics could certainly be better. A very generic and not reassuring error message. A post it's easy to miss from a moderator. It's possible as a global company they didn't feel they could email people because they didn't have permission under the GDPR. Given they have a Paris branch they may be more clued in than most. This is a real cstch-22 risk for companies that have been in business for many years and quite possibly didn't ask the appropriate questions (which didn't exist at the time) they solicited your email address. This is why you're seeing a few companies asking you to explicitly agree that they can use your email address to send you site administration messages and so on.
Email this guy. He will get you back on. mharvey@collectors Nice guy. Add .com to the address. He will send a temp password. When you get in, set a new password. It was a pain but I can post again. If you email Heather, she will forward it to mharvey. Mods. Hope the way I posted this is ok.
I didn't bother updating the password. The only time I have seen compulsory password resets was with credit cards and work log-in. I have never had a ban on any other site other than PCGS. This is the craziest and most immoderate "moderation" that I have seen.
It's not a ban... People are being really stupid about this. I guess it says something about a company when the first place everybody's thoughts jump to is evil intent. Apply hanlon's razor: never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity. PCGS' board is run by a hosting company and the host had a data breach. It doesn't appear that any data was stolen that would matter to us, but out of an nabundance of caution the host forced a reset on people's passwords. It's nothing PCGS did, other than being slow to tell people what happened. .
I have been actually banned on PCGS forum, no warning or reasons. Currently probably ghosted, as my posts were not visible since around Labor Day. I try to be a good boy scout, doing the right thing. I know a number of others who said they had been banned on PCGS forum. Crazy.
