Got my first military payment certificate today (well first American one anyway, did get one of the British equivalent from De Orc in my last trade)... haven't really considered collecting these before (have nothing against them, just never felt the motivation to seek them out) but I bought this one on impulse, seeing it in the coin shop where I get my supplies: Military Payment Certificate, 10 cents, Series 481 (1951-1954) The woman holding the globe, or ball, or whatever it's supposed to be, certaintly exudes an air of simple elegance. Might seek more of this out in the future!
Now you are sliding down a very slippery slope. The notes get very expensive for higher grades, higher denominations, but of course, those are the ones with the attractive women on them.
My real US currency addiction is all about $2's lol... so I'm not too worried, as none of these were issued in $2 denominations. I think I can easily resist being overly enticed by these... but I may pick up a few that I consider to be within the realm of reasonability as far as prices go. Stick to the lower denominations and you can still get quite a few interesting, beautiful pieces pretty cheaply. Which reminds me, I really have to start going after $2's again... just need a few more to finish my series set of small ones, then can move on to the large ones! Be focusing on world notes lately but am considering seeking out some more $2's when my stimulus check comes in.
You will find that incredibly, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing really is/was capable of printing lovely paper money: http://www.geocities.com/scottishmoney/banknotes/usa/usampc.html I have more on the way, hopefully the Series 611 $10 "Marilyn" and the unissued Series 691 $1 will be coming in the mail either today or Monday. The Series 611 $10 was rumoured to have been modelled after Marilyn Monroe, the vignette bears a striking resemblance.

LOL...you are too funny! Not to worry, I like the ones with the Indian and Buffalo on them....also have to many Large size to get as well as some Obsoletes. But keep in mind I am looking at high grade examples when ever they show up....I am sure there are plenty for us both Scottish...:kewl: Regards, RickieB
I want the obsolete $3 from Bank of De Soto Nebraska from the 1850's with "Morning" on it, the topless Ms. Young America:smile The only obsoletes I will collect are ones with lovely ladies on them. There are plenty too.
It is perhaps the loveliest of many very lovely designs from that era. Can you imagine "Morning" on a modern note? Is that the one that was in the recent Heritage Auction?
