Another fine example of doubling. Very strong spread to most lettering on the reverse. Some letters will show triple struck!

    What to look for

On reverse look for strong doubling throughout all lettering. Once again his year has a few different varieties. The photos below will show the strongest of doubling. If a nice example is found with strong doubling throughout the letters you are looking at a nice chunk of change! Through the first 12 rolls and I’ve found 3 pre 60’s coins. Down a lot from my normal 1 coin every roll or two. And a 2009 P. My first in two boxes

I haven't searched any boxes of nickels since May. I continue to marvel at the number of better dates being found and the higher than average conditions that some of them are. My average box contained 25 pre-1960 nickels. Maybe 1 war nickel every other box or 2 and mostly the same high mintage ones that I found back in the 1970s. I'm not sure if the OP is averaging the 25 pre-1960 nickels per box, but I'd trade my results for his!

I don't think your numbers are way off. In fact, I suspect that they are within a standard deviation or two. With each passing year, the large number of nickels produced create some level of 'artificial scarcity'. Basically, the nickels that we most desire become diluted by the large numbers of new nickels flooding the space. In addition, War Nickels are growing scarcer because silver hoarders are plucking them for content and collectors for collectability. Same is true of other funny looking nickels (Buffalo and V). But in general, the numbers while trending downward, are relatively stable...just obscured by the giant populations of new nickels. And with that said, it's why I advocate and promote the collection of variety nickels. It slows down the process and expands what can be collected, especially amongst the 'modern' nickels.

PS - Nickelsorter. You appear very close to piecing together a circulation set. Keep at it!! It's very satisfying to complete a Jefferson collection from CRH and pocket change. Good luck!!

Ok so this box was a doozie. The 1962 Philadelphia appears to be a DDR-41 according to variety vista. The first top two photos are of the actual coin I have. The bottom two photos are for comparison. My coin is the top photo and variety vista is the bottom photo when comparing. I will say i spent a ton of time on this coin comparing photos and I will say im 50/50 on it. But for now we will call it a DDR-41 till I have a buddy of mine take a look at it. But other than this rodeo of a 62 it was a average box.

    1-Error 1962 DDR-41 (maybe)

You will start to notice a trend with these early DDRs. The doubling is pretty much always located heavily on the same letters.

    What to look for

Some very nice spreading throughout "United" with very nice doubling located on the top of the letter "T" as shown. Nice doubling can also be seen in "America" as well as "LLO" in Monticello. There are a ton for the date. Can you take a few pictures of the obverse/reverse and shots of affected areas? Maybe start a separate thread to garner more input.

A little different from what you have seen based on DDRs. This has some very unique doubling and details to look out for

    What to look for

This error has a very nice double of the left steps below the Monticello it also easy to spot. Your dateless is probably a 1913 Type 1 with the wear pattern. Maybe a 13 D or S. Wouldn't that be awesome!

Yeah I knew it was a raised mound but man this thing is worn down to the bone. Wonder in the end of this quest if I could get a mint mark.

You should be able to. I found 13Ds for both varieties. No Ss, but P and D.
