MS-66 RED, and gorgeous! Very nice coin, that beard detail is sweet! Very nice coin!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Phoenix
65RD is my guess, a gorgeous coin, very lusterous and well struck. Just too many micro nicks in the hair to go 66 IMO, but you never know. I have seen those in 66RD all day that nice, and I think it desrerves it, but my guess is a PCGS 65RD
I LIKE THAT ONE!!!!!!!!!!! That is fully struck, very few nicks, and a clean full red. I see no reason it would be less than 66. BTW, nice pictures also.
I think PCGS graded the coin either a 65 or 66. There appears to be a carbon spot under the I in IN, some roughness on the shoulder, and a couple random hits. I think the eye appeal is excellent though, so I'd personally lean toward 66.
Looks like a 65 to me. The strike and luster are great but it looks like it has too many hits to be a 66. It's a great pic but I find it extremley hard to grade a coin unless I can hold it and tilt it. PCGS seems to care more about hits and NGC seems to care about luster IMO but I mostly collect gold.
What hits are you guys seeing? I only can spot a couple, but I could be wrong. And I thought I was being conservative with my grade. Phoenix
I saw 1 just below the lapel, 1 below "AMERICA", and 1 on the forehead. All small and pretty much par for a 66. Were it not for the one on the reverse, I might will say 67. All of that probably means that PCGS gave it a 65.
MS65RD. <-- PCGS MS66RD <--- my opinion This my friends is not an ordinary Lincoln Cent. Great Pickup.
I am going to lean on the PCGS66 side. I have been on the watch for these early reds and I have to admit, have not even found one close to that. Blazing luster. Heres a 63 I'm after, but lacks the luster the OP coin has. http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2546&lot=1047
Yeah, I would pay about what I paid for the 128 years older cent I bought today for that one too. For the record, this coin was one of about 10-15 examples from an original bank roll that was discovered in the Eastern US, that certified 65 or 66, but this piece is indeed a mere 65 on the PCGS holder, but I didn't buy it for the holder, I like the nice original mint bloom on it, the lustre is amazing. It has become one of those seemingly ordinary coins, that amazes one because of it's state of preservation.
That's surprises me a bit on the 65 grade, but, you never know. Might have been submitted when grading was tight at times. Still, you got a sweet coin, not the holder, congrats! :thumb: Phoenix
