The hoary days of winter approach....any ancients with Orion upon them? Post indeed if there are such, Nary a one (if any) have I.....
I don't believe the mythological figure of Orion the hunter appears on ancient coins. Marshall Faintich's Astronomical Symbols on Ancient and Medieval Coins is quite encyclopedic and makes no mention of such. Moreover, a search at acsearch.info does not reveal any coins depicting the mythological hunter. The closest you'll get is a reference to the constellation Lepus, the hare which Orion and his hounds chase through the night sky: It has been speculated that the hare depicted on this 5th century BC coin of Bruttium-Rhegion is related to Orion, god of the Strait of Messina, and therefore symbolizes the unity of Rhegion and Messana.
