I guess they're out there. Just don't recall seeing many of these in more recent years. Mostly 40's war nickels. cc: @Lehigh96
That’s a nice coin in general. Strong strike, nice luster, decent surfaces, and the die crack is very cool. I’ve never seen a crack that big on 50’s Nickel.
Thanks for that reality check and conformation. This had been in a duplicate and triplicate tube of Jefferson's, ones I've pulled from my Dansco for upgrades over the years. One of my concerns as a non-expect hobbyist, is having something, significant, rare (not that this is one) or unusual in my collection and not know it.
It happens all the time. My first 50D came as a kid and I stuck it in my earliest folder. It was GEM BU, but to me, it was shiny and stuck in the hole to fill it. It clearly was a liberated coin from someone's collection. 30 years later, I learn the 50D is the hardest one to find during a CRH event. Not even close for me...but who knew? Glad you retained it and found it again...only this time with your improved numismatic vision!
Thanks! I have (what I believe) is a beautiful complete set of mint state Jefferson's, less all the varieties... Then I look at yours and reality sets in!
