There's no predicament. When it's low mintage everyone wants it, when the mintage is high the vast majority don't care

The entire sale of this Enhanced Reverse Proof Coin was an inexcusable CF, considering this is not the first 'hot-selling' item on the US Mint website. I was lucky enough to get one but, it took me about 13 minutes of struggling with the website. Twice in a row I had one in my bag and managed to get to the checkout page but, got the 'Oops! Something went wrong.' message. When I got back to the product page, my bag was empty. Finally, after reloading the webpage for the umpteenth time, I magically had 1 in my bag and was able to checkout before getting another error page. Minutes later, the product page showed 'currently unavailable'. Curiously, those error pages stopped. Considering that there were probably thousands of people still trying to order one, that seemed strange. Also, you guys were pretty hard on jwitten but, I doubt that him having 30 or so people trying to order one for him probably didn't keep you from getting one. I received an email for a dealer, offering to pay $221.90 for every coin that could be delivered to them. There's no way they were the only dealer doing that. How do these big major dealerships offer them on their sites as a pre-sale item, if they don't have multiples of this coin? I wish the Mint would allow customers that are part of the Loyalty program to reserve on pre-sale, instead of trying your luck at being online when the sales start. I've had to take time off work, when an item I really wanted was going to be launched and had a limited mintage. I've also ordered a product and days later, received an email saying 'Oops, we made a mistake and your order is no longer confirmed but, canceled'. Ordering from the US Mint can be a crap shoot.

Apparently, you haven't been reading everything as well. It's not about mintage. It's about people taking advantage of the system at the expense of others.

And no, I'm not crying over spilt milk! I have no interest in this coin and never did. I'm speaking out for the rights of others, and obviously, there are certain people here who don't give a damn.

In a few months -- maybe weeks -- this whole thing won't matter and you can get one for a semi-reasonable if not original issue price.:cigar:

And a few years from now, these threads will have gone YEARS without any posts on them as interest in this coin disappears and the premium continues to fizzle away. :p

Don't worry, I'll refresh the thread....in fact, I'll quote this post when one of the Mods berates me for "How come you brought back a thread that hadn't any posts for 3 years ?" :D

Original issue price? I doubt it. But I'm guessing they'll settle pretty quickly to a price that's a good bit lower than today's frenzy.

    I think that's what I said, agreed ! "Semi-reasonable...." :D

Hey, markets are all about people agreeing on "reasonable" prices. It's just that sometimes the "reasoning" escapes me...

The mint should try to satisfy the demand instead of creating this feeding frenzy.

There's vastly reduced demand unless the frenzy is created. If they said mint to demand no one would have really cared. This issue has gotten more excitement/interest/publicity in the last two days than the proof eagle this year will get in the next 100 years.

The mint should create things that are exciting such as this from time to time. There's plenty of boring unlimited mintages that linger and sit all year long already

I asked that same question and was told that special coins are not on your enrollment. I have the Uncirculated, Proof, and San Francisco on my enrollment and have never missed any unless they were "special".

As a long term collector of this series and one who could not get one due to the Mint’s website issues, I say good riddance. I’m done with the US Mint. The mintage was way below what it should have been given the ASE collector base.

Some seem to think these low quantity issues will enhance coin collecting. It has done just the opposite for me.
They have artificially created a new low mintage for the series and this will only benefit the flippers. I have no ill will towards the flippers as they were just capitalizing on the Mint’s poor decisions.

It will be interesting to see if they produce more at a later date.

They must calculate that creating this demand, and the resulting controversy, is good advertising for The Mint as well as the hobby.

    Go figure.....

Don't let the SOBs ruin the hobby for you.

When they email you all the other gazillion products they want to buy, tell them you'd be happy to buy it....so long as they limit production to 30,000 each !! :D:D

If the mintage limit & product limit are both set at 30,000, how can they make more? Isn't that illegal?

You know, I'd argue that the W quarters -- minted in small numbers, and released into circulation -- did this, and did it exactly right. They definitely raised the energy level in the hobby, but more like a nice pot of coffee or some dark chocolate, and less like a big hit of meth.

It's kind of funny that on July 3, the Pride of Two Nations ASE was Enhanced Reverse Proof, just like this one. The only difference was the mint that produced this one, which is San Francisco and the other one was minted in West Point.

But the mint didn't create this feeding frenzy...the greed of so many did. I've Seen it before. It's the greed to make a fast buck that created the frenzy we all are seeing. The hobby is great and clean. But you have to expect there will be wolves along with the sheep to make the hobby tarnished. Like you said, in time this won't matter and the prices will drop. Some are hurt for not getting what they wanted, but I am sure they have great collections in spite of not having this particular coin. Enjoy what you have obtained to this point. This single coin isn't going to make or break your collection for the most part. This is America, greed is part of the deal here.
