to see the US Mint has posted it's 2020 production schedule. Nice to see a list of so many coins I have NO interest in buying. Here take a look for yourself. https://catalog.usmint.gov/product-schedule/2020/
I might order the 2020 Kennedy 200 coin bag. Might find some mint errors. I could start a thread with my finds with the famous words "Rare" and "Discovery"
I like the American Innovations series but I'm only interested in a P/D to add to my collection. Other than that, looks like I won't be buying any mint coins in 2020
I had NO interest in even looking. At least you alerted me to whatever I was ignoring. The Mint spends so much time putting out overpriced stuff. I wish they and Treasury Department would spend more effort in: 1. ending the One Cent coin to save money. 2. redesigning the Five Cent coin to save money. 3. ending the One Dollar Bill to save money. Yes, that would mean nickel breakage and the American public would KNOW that was a Government and private industry ploy to have more money taken away from them. Take a look at Australia and see how that's harmed their economy In the case of he One Dollar Bill that would get the One Dollar coins out of storage and make them useful. And also get the Two Dollar Bills out of storage and make them useful. Oh, wait. I forgot that Congress would have to be involved. I'm not likely to be around when they finally figure it out.
They have $1 (US: 68c) and $2 (1.36) circulation coins, and did away with the 1 and 2 c coins quite a while ago. Canada has basically the same setup, from 5 cents to 2 dollars. In the euro area, it depends: Some countries have rounding rules for cash totals (so that 1 and 2 ct coins are not needed), others do not, but they all use €1 and €2 coins ... Christian
I was there in 1994 and they had already done away with the penny which resulted in 5d breakage. Didn't seem to harm them at all. Plus as I recall they had also gone to the "plastic" currency. Their bills lasted much longer.
Interestingly that does not always work, depending on the climate. Just a few days ago I read an article about the polymer notes that they have in São Tomé e Príncipe are about to be replaced by new ones made from cotton paper substrate. See here (article in Portuguese). From Google's translation: "New 5 and 10 banknotes will be made this time with 100% cotton paper substrate at reduced cost, roughly half the price paid for the previous banknotes. (...) The 5 and 10 dobra notes could not withstand the hot, humid climate of São Tomé & Príncipe and began to melt." Christian
Normally, I’d pick the proof silver eagles. But I think I’m going to let the Mint keep them next week. I’d hate to think I was jamming up their computer again.
The Women's Suffrage Centennial Commemorative Coin Act was just signed into law. Will be issued in 2020. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/president-trump-signs-coin-medal-legislation-into-law I haven't seen images yet of the final designs that were chosen.
Ah well, it won't happen in the US of course. But various other countries have done it, see above, without having consumer prices affected. Christian
I think we have transitioned to the point where coins have no value or usage. I would just have quaters and the one dollar and the 5 dollar coin would be both coins. Maybe it is time for the new shequel.
