In other Mint-competence news, I shelled out for "next-day" "shipping", on the off chance I could get it in-hand before this weekend's local show.

Order was "Confirmed" around 12:30PM Thursday.

    Order was "Shipped" around 9PM.

UPS tracking says the label was created at 9:01, but they're still waiting to receive the item for shipment, at almost noon Friday.

to be fair from the mints website under "shipping & returns"
The table below outlines the United States Mint online catalog shipping options, costs, and estimated shipping times from our distribution center. Please allow 1-2 business days for order processing plus the additional delivery times below.

Delivery Method Price (U.S. Dollars Approximate Shipping Time
    Budget Shipping $4.95 1–2 weeks
Standard Shipping $12.95 3–6 business days
Expedited Shipping $17.95 2–3 business days
Next Day Shipping $20.95 Next business day
    International Shipping $17.90 + $2.95 per item 1–2 weeks

It's 1-2 days for processing and the shipping company collection from them, then the transit time. it will likely get picked up by the shipping company before 5pm today and then you'll get it on monday.

Yes, that's what I expect. For my last few orders it wasn't an issue, because they included higher-value items that automatically bump you to Expedited shipping at no extra charge, and they shipped fairly quickly anyhow. Even budget shipping is usually pretty quick these days.

The part that surprises me is that they did not have a fast pay option for those that already have a payment option stored in their system. Seems it would have helped the traffic issues to get customers out of the payment process as quickly as possible.

I was busy at work and had no chance to buy the coin. I see the coins are available for 10-fold the issue price on eBay. I have decided to move on.

Instead, I bought the latest 5-ounce ATB, the new Innovation dollar rolls of 25, an S-mintmarked roll of quarters and a few other new coins issued over the past two months.

I'd say if you are interested in one at mint cost be on the website for the next few days right before 7:30AM EST and keep refreshing the page through 7:31AM. If they have some leftovers that's when they would put them on there and open up sales for a short time.

It's about the only way to do it now and if they have voided orders or declined cards or just found inventory that's when they would do it each day until it's completely sold out.

Got skunked on Thursday but was able to get one at 7:31 Friday morning. They were up for 3 minutes. I feel very lucky to have gotten one.

Do you know what I'd like to see happen? I'd like to learn that the Mint has changed their mind and due to the overwhelming demand, they have decided to strike 100,000 more for release within the next few days.

Vary unprofessional for a government website to have problems like that. I’m vary annoyed with hold situation. I really wanted one for me personally and not for resale and all I keep hearing about is how people got “10” of them. Not cool at all. I understand the minting of 30,000 it will go quick but to have it at your fingertips and a website crash and come back up in less then a minute and there gone is bs.! ( pay to much taxes for that crap to happen!!) lol

:stop: I got closed out by the Mint computer after reaching the "confirm" page three times due to Oops! However, do you know what I :troll: wish Chris...

I wish the mint would strike 30,000 Pattern Silver Eagles and send them free of charge to everyone who was lucky to get one of the original 30,000. That would give all the crybabies :bigtears::bigtears: more to wad their pants up about. :jawdrop::D:p

I rip on them a bunch but to be fair it's money. Their site other than like a day or two a year generally at best really doesn't need to handle the volume of these releases. Make of it what you will where maybe the design committees should think harder on that fact, but it would foolish for them to spend a bunch of money for a better site when they basically never need it.

That said we can all still make fun of it

This is exactly the kind of half-fast response one would expect to hear from someone who has not read all of the threads concerning this predicament.
