C'mon guys, settle down. We all know that the hype generated by "different" coins will always be here, and those who buy them at inflated prices have every right to do so. Meanwhile, I'll wait for several years and probably get one for a little over $100. It is certainly not a priority for me, but for others they may want it to help complete a collection or just because it's a shiny new toy. Their prerogative.

It wasn't an auction. There was a fixed price and a limit for individual purchase.

Hang in there...the Mint will be offering these occasionally for the next few weeks.

Are you referring to a time a decade ago when I was actively buying Mint bags of business strikes that were produced in the tens & hundreds of millions, examining them tediously for the high grades to submit for grading and selling certified MS68's to Registry owners?

You think that is the same? No wonder I still have you on ignore, you jerk!

Exactly. There's a long enough price history for past RPs and the like to have an educated guess on what they will go for. This one is by far the lowest mintage of any of them and pretty much all of them besides the 2013 mint to demand set are all selling for over issue price with some of them well over

You didn't make any new friends with your post yesterday. Gloating over the fact that you were able to get 15 of these coins that the US Mint's website stated were limited to one per household.

They released about 700 of these at the Baltimore show. 600 on day one and 100 yesterday with a surprise noon announcement. Some dealers once again hired people to stand in line. At least they didn't hire bums this time like they did when the Kennedy Gold fiasco happened. Still, I saw a little drama: a lady pretended she lost her ticket to get one right after leaving the cash register. The dealer was indignant and called her a liar. We were all watching this spectacle. We theorized that she had decided to sell it to another dealer because he swooped in and offered her more money (The same thing that was happening when I was in line for the Kennedy gold years back). In any case, she handed the dealer back his prepaid credit card, played like her English was bad, and got away with it I guess, because after confronting her, he eventually gave up and she walked away (presumably to sell her pocketed coin to the higher paying dealer). Fun times.

IMO, you took the spirit of the mint's rules and gamed the system. Illegal or against the rules? No. Kind of immoral and with a lean towards screwing your "fellow" collectors. Yes.

Unfortunately there is nothing to stop it and people with more money than brains will pay your exorbitant prices.

Sure it's a free country and you can certainly take advantage of the system. Is it the right thing to do? Well that is something only the individual can answer.

I will say that I have purchased something from you in the past and I very much enjoyed our interaction. However with this now come to light, I wouldn't buy from you in the future. I'm sure that our transaction was just a tiny drop in the bucket for you but that's the most I can do as a consumer. It is up to each individual to decide for themselves if they are willing to deal with someone who has unethical practices.

I wonder if they will release any today and if there will be any more shenanigans.

I quit collecting Silver Eagles a few years back when the mint did something like this. I just wanted one to keep my set complete. Before that, I had bought every issue direct from the mint. I even bought the gold set in 1995 to keep by set going. After 30+ years of building the set, I felt hurt and just quit.

I would feel bad to brag about buying 15. That makes 14 collectors that have to go to the open market and pay stupid money. Not something I would do to fellow collectors.

Searching bags for high grade coins has nothing to do with this thread. That takes skill and a lot of labor. Any profit was earned and no collectors got screwed.

My son and I will be getting there around 10 when the show opens. We won't be dealing with the crazyness around the mint booth lol.

My son will be there running my booth (1042) while I'm out buying. Stop by around 11 and you'll probably see me there, too!

I hope you and others create a Whitman Baltimore thread and report back on the show....# of dealers...how was their business....show attendance....announcements...etc.
