This coin was so important that I had completely forgotten about it. I did see that the mint said it wasn't available and that I could be notified if or when one becomes available. I am a collector, but not so much that I would cry if I couldn't get one. There was one of the ASE's in a set with the Canadian coin. I bought that set and am well pleased. In 2016, when there were the gold dime, quarter, and half, which I got lucky and got the quarter and Half. I did sign up to get the gold dime if one should come available. I had forgotten about it, until I got my notice. Now I have all three. Luck comes from those that work and are patient.
People do realize these are mint bullion right? The mint is probably tooling up 50 different privy marks ( one for each state) , perhaps only available is that state for $299.99 and join the hucksters that advertise in the newspapers and the old people's journals. Eventually the flippers run out of people willing to buy higher and there is where the problem lands in the lap of the least informed. IMO, Jim
Let me make it clear that I am not one of those who missed out on this coin from the Mint, so I'm not crying over spilt milk. What I object to is that *jwitten* has openly bragged on CT that he has purchased at least 15 of these coins using shills to buy as many as he can when others, here, have been turned down by the Mint and all they want is one lousy coin for their collection. *jwitten* has done this before, and it takes a lot of nerve for a low-life to brag about it. It's a slap in the face to those who were left out. Chris
Lets turn the heat down before the boiling over starts. The forums has old fashion collectors for the history and the thrills of completion of a sough collection , and the youtube bred fast money flippers, and everyone in-between. If you brag on a deal, one should expect responses if the affect other posters, so lets stay within rules as to respect ( both directions) as this event is over. Write the mint or your representatives to explain you do not feel the process is fair to his constituents and don't buy from flippers. Jim
jwitten is the not the problem. The Mint is the problem. They created an instant shortage with the low issue. They can easily mint 300,000 as 30,000. No one is forcing the buyers to pay those aftermarket prices. But that is how the free enterprise system works.
15 of my friends sure like the payday they are getting for this. I see nothing wrong with it. I hope you never sell a coin for a profit if you do not like free market capitalism. And you should never buy from any of the big dealers, because pretty much every single one of them is buying these for more than mint issue price, just like I am doing.
Paid friends. Call it what you want, lol. All of them are personal friends that were willing to help me out and make some extra cash.
If I cherrypick a $10000 coin for $50, the collector is not entitled to a lower price because I seized an opportunity, even if it was simply because I bought it faster than that collector did. How many of us here have bragged about our cherrypicks without retribution? And whose fault is it if a collector bids a new release through the roof simply because they gotta have it now? If such collectors didn’t have such a mentality, this frenzy would not happen.
And I remember there were 15 more who declined your offer. A .500 batting average. Actually you were just trying to make a buck and undoubtedly made a few bucks for some other people who wouldn't have necessarily known what to do. I think the point is that it was somewhat insensitive to post it where others were moaning that they couldn't buy any. Perhaps you should offer them on the CT for sale forum.
Yes it happens. I had one or two cancel my purchase and then relist. I will wait the appropriate time and and leave a neutral feedback.
Not trying to be insensitive.. just excited that I had some success. Yes, only about 50% of my friends were successful buying. Anyone and everyone could have done what I did. It was a cheap offering, which made it easy to be able to pay friends to help you get some. I've already got a buyer lined up for when they arrive.. and I guess most of yall would be mad at him for offering even more than I did. Oh well, sorry I offended everyone.
It wasn't a problem when you were in the game. Must be about time to hear of your "scores" one more time.
I have done very successful deals with jwitten. I was happy, he was happy and from the ones I know, his buyers of the flipped product were happy. Just sayin.
