Congrats Kanga...what does the DETAILS mean in your case ? The coin was altered or cleaned or something ?
Glad you got your coin. Please leave it in the plastic. You mentioned two other coins you needed for your set, which ones are they?
Check out the reverse. There's a really big scrape through the eagle's wing. The rest of those marks might be adjustment marks, but the one through the eagle's wing is definitely enough to detail it on its own.
I think you've got it correct. Somewhere I've seen a coin from the same reverse die without the wing damage. So I attribute the other marks to die adjustments. But for now this will be the coin in my type set.
1. A 1796 Draped Bust Quarter/Small Eagle Reverse. 2. A 1796 Draped Bust Half Dollar/Small Eagle Reverse. Both are 5-figure coins in what I consider a collectible grade (G-04). And I probably won't seriously consider either coin in that grade. Which probably means I'll never get either one. Right now the lowest grade in my type set is a VG-10; it's a Chain America Cent.
I think NGC gave it a bit of a gift with this grade. But older keys often tend to get that treatment.
That Chain cent is a looker. I'm sure your the envy of many when you show her around. Thanks for sharing!!
