Anyone know what happened to the new American Eagle from the mint? I got the reminder that they were going on sale today, but when I checked they said they were out of them. It was a 1 per household limit. Did they really have 30,000 orders in less than one hour?

They were out all in about 75 seconds. That's about 1 minute and 15 seconds after noon. I was napping from my morning surgery so I really didn't care.

I read online that they sold out in 18 minutes.

However, the site was in bad shape. A lot people on Twitter are reporting that they had it in their cart, and when they went to checkout, it said they were no longer available. But,.. the mint says that they'll release others at a later date once they determine how many they have in stock.

So,.. yeah,.. just a really messed up process.

Looks like if they become available,.. you'll get a notification. So, good luck.

And, if today is any indication, that reminder will come 30-45 minutes after they sell out. For the last high-demand issue, I think there were several later mornings where a few reappeared on the site, and it was just a matter of camping on the site at the right time to catch one.

I ended up getting about 15! Had close to double that trying to buy for me. It was a mad house.

That was real considerate of you considering that so many people who just wanted one were not able to get it.

Why do you bother posting this sort of BS?

Agree. This is kinda scummy and is exactly the thing that gives this hobby a bad name. I understand it is no different than a scalper buying tickets to a popular concert or something. But IMO that is also scummy and should not be encouraged.

Typically people get those notifications after they have already gone on sale and are sold out again.

The combination of a clunky government-run website + a bunch of old farts trying to use the internet = lots of people not getting the coin.

That's what happened to me. I was sitting there at exactly noon. Had it in the cart trying to pay and it kept kicking me out.

….or they end up getting those coins that were returned to the Mint because they were subpar.

I was wondering if anyone that is on the Mint's "American Eagle Silver One Ouce Proof Coin Enrollment" obtained this coin with no problem?

I was at work and we had a fiber network and server room and fiber outside. we are fast as he'll for transmission rates.

Because I ran my yap about it at work for 2 months, myself and 3 others were trying to get one, only I was successful and I think it was mostly because I've placed like 6 orders this year and pretty familiar with the process and they weren't, and also know what to expect from their website when its getting crushed by orders. With the pride of two nations set it was rough for the first 10 min but because of the quantity they had for that it smoothed out. I didn't think this was going to smooth out so I wasn't waiting for the "oops screen" to reload and just openin new windows and going to the cart over and over trying to get one completed. I did get it complete and got an order confirmation, the other 3 in my office it went to unavailable on, and they couldn't complete.

My opinion their server is fine for most things but when it's a hot item or a super hot item where everyone crashes their sever at the same time and tosses something in a cart and tries to complete the order it's like a sever attack for them. Technically it is the same as a server attack. Probably working 40 orders a second and multiples of attempts at the same time that are failing.
It just winds up pure luck. I think if their servers could handle that kind of traffic it would of been on sale for under 5 minutes and the only reason it took 18 minutes was because of their server. It's not Amazon. For the most part, day to day their server works fine and doesn't have an issue.

I wanted one for me not for investment or sale to make a buck I got that pride of two nations ERP and really liked it and had to have this one also and I knew going in I couldn't afford it after it sold out and was on the secondary market, i just dont have that kind of budget and the only way for me to get it would be at original price from the mint.

A lot of people were disappointed and frustrated I'm sure. That peon on here that said he got 15, if it wasn't him it would be the coin dealers or home shopping. I'm sure they were doing it too, trying to get as many as they can. Coin dealers were offering $50-$150 above cost that I know about to get people to try and bounty hunt it for them.

Sorry to those that wanted and weren't able to get it, congrats to those that did. Keep an eye on the secondary market of your choice. These people that are flipping are going to flood it and push the price up in the process like they always do and the prices will come down as they undercut each other to sell it.

It just depends on where buyers set the line really. if their items just sit there they will lower and relist it.and someone else will lower theirs ect. Ect. I think it will go up for the next week and then come down like most things do.

Also check the mint website. Some of the multiple orders I'm sure will get invalidated for same addresses, wrong addresses, declined credit cards, I won't be surprised if they open it back up a couple time's to sell a few hundred remaining but still you gotta be quick. Good luck.

No, that enrollment program was for the regular proof silver eagle. It does not apply to these "special" coins. People with that enrollment program were in the same boat with everyone else.
