...I’m going to try this method on some of my Zincolns...then the deed will match the thought! Yes, yes, I know it will scream AT, it’s just ironic that it takes something like urine to make them better in some way. @HookFynn ...that’s a nice ‘51D...good find...Spark
Makes sense - urine is full of trace minerals, including nitrogen, phosphorus, urea, etc. - urea is related to ammonia, which will definitely tone copper a vivid blue color - so 'pee in the cup', drop in a few shiny cents, stir well, stand back and watch the magic happen - don't forget to rinse everything well afterward
Well, it turns out this is not going to be instantaneous. My experiment in underway, I will keep everyone posted...Spark
...I honestly think I did this experiment wrong. I immersed a zincoln in about 4 tablespoons of pee for almost exactly 96 hours but no toning. It did leave a precipitate and the surface looks like a tarn-x job leaving it a pinkish hue. See for yourselves...here is the obverse of before...the second obverse is the after. This is identical lighting and position. I am going to try another and re-post in a new thread...Spark
HA! go Spark! if you can get one to look like my 2000 i'll send it to you as a thank you! also, any idea what you guys think the value on the 51' is?
@HookFynn ...they punched out over 625 million, they are very easy to obtain. Still, yours has survived the ages...I would call the wear AU58, but with the discolorations it is a red brown and end up a 55 if it were sent off. It’s not worth more than 15 to 20 cents so not worth sending. Good strong strike with relatively clean fields...a nice coin I would keep...Spark
With the RPM, the coin will fetch about $2-3 from a variety collector. Coppercoins suggests $3.75 in that condition but don’t expect to get that. And not worth slabbing at that value but it depends on you.
No qualms, my man...I am using extreme sanitation, laboratory regimen...closed containers, latex gloves...the works...Spark
