Looked at this coin and thought it was machine doubling for a while but then I noticed all the devices on the reverse are HUGE, FAT, & ROUND........and I know if it was all just uniform strike doubling the devices wouldn't be that large! Right?!?

So I bought a new USB microscope to get some decent pics......

So you think this is machine/strike/mechanical doubling? Because it isn't...

    The pictures are just sub-par.

There is information regarding doubling that is similar to what you describe. I am not saying your coin has doubling because I cannot tell from the pictures. In addition, I find this "doubling" to be uninteresting and I don't understand why people care about them. Give me a 1971 DDO-1 any day.

That being said, try these sites:

    The images don't prove anything.

Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

If you're so sure this is what you say it is, learn how to use your new toy and then ask your question. For now all we see is blurry pics and lots of random blue arrows.

Yeah, I'm awful at taking pictures of coins. I always overexpose too much I think. Any quick tips from the seasoned veterans?

    Thanks! :)

You probably don't have much exposure flexibility with your USB scope. If you can, add some diffusion to the lights. That will spread out the light over the coin and make the overall image brighter and highlights darker. Maybe the scope will then turn down the exposure a bit as well.

    Yes it is, Rick!

Sorry for the roughish pictures.....I tried my best......taking pictures of coins is extremely difficult in my personal opinion!!!

And I'd rather not say until it gets back from being viewed/attributed/photographed in hand by Mr. Ken Potter himself, at our big metro Detroit coin show here at the end of this month. (Just recently had a lengthy conversation with him on the phone!)

Let's just say it is predicted to bring many thousands of dollars at auction....(don't wanna ruin the numismatic surprise so to speak) until it hits the auction block sometime in 2020.

    Thanks. :)

Can't wait to meet you man......if all goes well and I can drive out to Warren and see you guys.....you'll be holding this exact coin in your hand.......and then after some intense examination......you may just even faint ;)

See you in 2 weeks, my brother!

    God bless. :)

I hope you don't create a scene when Rick might tell you different than what you believe.

    Good luck.
