Yes very fake. Probably just someone messing around to see what they could do. Just out of curiosity where did you get them?
Fake? I beg to differ! It is a known fact that these are U.S. 1 Dollar coins from Germany and were minted in Germany after WWII, by the U.S., and were used as temporary currency. Ribbit Ps: Just foolin! But that's usually what the listings for these say, over in Ebay Germany. :goof: Pps: Here's the Babelfish translation of the one in the link I provided in the later post: Hello, mad coin, extremely rarely!!!! _ see Scan.Habe some coin with acquire, .NP.Versand it, Ebay I. No cancelling, there of private. much fun when offering!!. This coin is offered very rarely. To hardly get!!! Mad coin? I couldn't agree more! :thumb: Rare? Now he's pushing it! :goof: Ribbit-Ribbit-Ribbit
They came from grandma-in-law. And one of my pictures didn't work right. This one is boths sides of C. The date says 1903, but thay didn't make these until 1984 right?
I believe it was 1986 but that is the first 1903 I've seen. They are usually 1906. Ribbit Ps: I will add links to lots of counterfeit dollars, of various years and makes: http://cgi.ebay.de/2x-FIVE-CENT-ONE...ryZ11977QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/ONE-CENT-1901-T-...ryZ11978QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem He has four of these: http://cgi.ebay.de/USA-Muenzen-Trad...ryZ42728QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Muenzen-USA-one-...ryZ42727QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Muenzen-USA-one-...ryZ42727QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem He has two of these: http://cgi.ebay.de/USA-one-dollar-1...ryZ42728QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Muenzen-USA-one-...ryZ42727QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-186...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-187...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-184...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-Lib...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-188...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-192...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-187...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Now here is the OP coin: http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-185...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-Lib...ryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Now here's an 1864 like the OP coin but they've gone full monty and gold plated it: http://cgi.ebay.de/Kl-Goldmuenze-1-...ryZ34940QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Those were just from 4 search pages (50 listings per page) but I think that's enough to show just how bad it is in Germany and how important it is to know your coins. Since I travel all over Ebay, I know where most of the counterfeits are. I also know where other things are too. Ribbit-Ribbit-Ribbit
No, they made those (the real ones anyhow) from 1916 to 1947. They are Liberty Walking halfs. You are probably referring to the same design used on the modern silver eagle bullion coins. On a side note, even though these aren't real US coins, they are still nice to have. You don't come accross such a selection of fantasy pieces too often. I'd keep them just for the novelty aspect. Guy~
I wasn't sure what to make of it, as it had the reverse of an ASE like you said, but the obverse was made to resemble a Walker, just based on the almost 80 year descrepincy on the date. I think it's it a mix. A mutt coin I guess. Guy~
Ohhhh...now I see, Doug. I wasn't looking at the obverse details close enough, particularlly the sun rays. It is a copy of an ASE...with a weird date. I need to open my eyes more often. Guy~
How many fantacy pieces would you like? How about a 1947 Morgan? http://cgi.ebay.de/Morgan-Dollar-1947-as-Copy-Collector-Replica_W0QQitemZ110262846680QQihZ001QQcategoryZ39466QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or how about the number one coin of all time - an 1804 DBD? http://cgi.ebay.de/Draped-Bust-Dollar-1904-as-Copy-Collector-Replica_W0QQitemZ110262846574QQihZ001QQcategoryZ11976QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or maybe a 1865 Washington Silver Dollar? http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-1865-gut-erhalten_W0QQitemZ330244945386QQihZ014QQcategoryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or maybe you'd like a Mercury Dollar? http://cgi.ebay.de/Alter-Dollar-Libberty-gut-erhalten_W0QQitemZ330244943714QQihZ014QQcategoryZ19518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or maybe you'd like a fake Ike? http://cgi.ebay.de/Muenzen-USA-Liberty-one-Dollar-1776-1976_W0QQitemZ370060983088QQihZ024QQcategoryZ42728QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or maybe you'd like one like the OP coin? http://cgi.ebay.de/1-DOLLAR-USA-UNITED-STATES-OF-AMERICA_W0QQitemZ120273338481QQihZ002QQcategoryZ42727QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or maybe you'd just prefer one like his (except a 1900)? http://cgi.ebay.de/Muenze-One-Dollar-1900-1-OZ-FINE-SILVER_W0QQitemZ260251902496QQihZ016QQcategoryZ42725QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The point is, they are more than a novelty, they are counterfeits and some peeps are trying to swindle others with them. And as to your comment about them being half-dollars, the half-dollars did not say what the OP coin says on the reverse, so those are not Walkers, they are ASE's counterfeited with a different date to make them look like 100 year old US Silver Dollars and I can usually find them anytime I want, somewhere in Europe, just as I did tonight. Ribbit Ps: Here's one you don't see every day . . . A 1796 Trade Dollar http://cgi.ebay.de/Trade-Dollar-1796-S_W0QQitemZ380037786691QQihZ025QQcategoryZ7999QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem That happens to be the first 1796 Trade Dollar I've seen and I thought I'd seen them all, but I guess wonders will never cease. :goof: Pps: The 1796 is truly rare . . . It's a 1796-S! Ribbit-Ribbit-Ribbit
