Ya know it's not like someone took a wire brush to these coins and whizzed them.

99% of the people out there will tell you no. I'll tell you yes, and it can do it in more than 1 way.

First of all, acetone is no different than any other chemical, if used improperly it will be harmful to the coin. Now how do you use it improperly ? Easy, don't dip the coin repeatedly in the same dish of acetone. If you do, what the acetone cleaned off in the first dipping will go into solution in the acetone and remain on the coin when the acetone dries. Forget to thoroughly rinse the coin in distilled water and you can again end up with residue.

Another way that acetone can be harmful to the coin, at least in a monetary sense, is that it may remove dirt, grime or contaminants that were covering up something that would cause the coin the coin to grade lower than it would have if it had not been cleaned with the acetone.

    Answer your question ?

IMO, if you want them slabbed, send them to ANACS.
As far as I can tell, they have all been cleaned, and not very gently.
As far as I can tell, NCS will be of no help to you.
If you send them to PCGS or NGC, they'll take your money and give you body bags.
With ANACS at least you'll get them slabbed with "DETAIL" notations.

Just out of curiosity, where can you buy acetone and how much does it cost? I'm assuming its flammable and how do you dispose of it. I've also heard of xylol or xylene any input on that?

    Thanks All.
