I wanted to share this with my new CT friends. This coin has been off the market since 2009. It was originally part of the Calvin collection and has been in the Ozark collection for the past 10 years. It's a gem and there are only two finer at NGC. It's helping me realize a 14-year quest to build a complete mint State set of walkers. Now I only have one left and I'll be done! I started in 2005.... thank you for looking and sharing in my passion.
Very nice! I'm sure that set you back a pretty penny. . Is the last one remaining 1921-D by any chance?
Nope. I have a fantastic MS 64 21d. The coin that I need is a 21 S. I'm not above purchasing a well struck, original 58. Doesn't have to be a mint State coin, as I'd be delighted with a nice Au example. I think it would fit my set well. I am looking at anything from 55 to 63.
Oddly, the 1921-S is a lot harder in MS. The 19-D is plenty tough, too, tougher than the 21-D in higher MS.
Found the 19d of my dreams 2 years ago. Fully original and darn near fully struck. When I saw it in the Dealer's inventory, I was sure that it had been sold, so I called him just to satisfy my curiosity. It was still available, so I bought it recklessly. I just couldn't pass it up. Everything worked out great. It's a 63 that looks like a 65. Completely Irreplaceable. I even got it for a decent price.
For those following along at home, 63 is about the highest you can hope to get a 21-S without moving into high five figures, right?
Dear sweet <entity I'm not allowed to mention on this Forum>. Someone at PCGS with a stunted soul focused on the leg weakness (duh, it's a pre-1921 strike) and the hit, I'm guessing. Their loss for not opening their eyes to the coin's full glory...
You could possibly get a decent 64 for anywhere between 40 and $50,000, but I have seen them sell for as much as $70,000.
Yeah, I don't think I could even sell my entire collection for that much. Well, technically, any collection can be a budget collection. It's just a matter of how high the budget is.
This is very true, as the number one Walker set at PCGS, makes me feel like a small fish in a very large pond LOL.
