I finally got some time to do a little more research on the process that causes this (possibly) type of doubled die. What I read is that this is the "second type" of doubling that can be found on the single squeeze hubbing system? This happens when the hub operator "stops"and "restarts" the hubbing process. It leaves centrally located design doubling. This is why on certain years in the early 2000s have a ton of different examples all around Lincoln on the reverse?

Id rather understand the process by which it occurs a little better to help identify them when I see them.

    Is my regurgitation correct lol???

It is my understanding as Mr. Wexler explains.....

    http://doubleddie.com/58222.html

.....the most common form of doubling from the single squeeze method is caused when the hub is not perfectly aligned with the conical-shaped face of the working die but is then snapped into place after the initial contact.

The second form of doubling, which is much rarer, comes when the machine operator stops the die-making process to make an adjustment and then restarts it but fails to make the correct alignment of the hub and die.

If I am wrong, I hope someone will correct me.

This is the obverse of this coin. I cant see any "distortion" centrally located on this side though. Is there that you can see??

As always, thanks Chris!!! You da man and happy Friday!
Looking at my penny, does this look to you to be this type of doubling? It really threw me off....and down a rabbit hole researching this. My untrained eye would normally say it must be a die chip or even PMD. What do you think???

I see neither doubling nor damage. To me, it's a spender.

Sorry but to me it's a spender. You can always save it if you want but it doesn't change anything.

It doesn't look the same as DDR-17.

I keep doing that! Its R not O, sorry!

17 looks longer to me too and not the same. Im just thinking that the single squeeze process has seemed to create alot of variations of this error in the same spot...just slightly different locations between the column and abes arm/body. If 17 is a DD and there seems to be no other evidence around any other devices, this penny i found seems to fit into this kind of error specifically around the "central" area.

Ahhhh,,,, Im over thinking a very weak DD and it doesnt sound like it is anyway. I hate Zincoln anyway

...it looks close to the ddr-17, but all of them are minor doubling. You might get 50 cents from someone trying to collect them all.

If this one doesn’t match up with Wexler or VV, you would have to send it to them so they could add it to the rest. I don’t know how many there are for this variety, but some dates have hundreds...Spark

Im gonna throw it in a 2x2 and toss it in the pile with the rest. I agree spark, the premium is nonexistent so its more to me for the "sport" of it. Theres a few things I look for in pennies from the 2000s and this silly thing can be seen easily with unaided eye. I generally hate zinc pennies because its so hard to look through the blistering and general PMD...plus they get weird reflections at times with the scope I like to use. Its definitely not one of the 20 listed...its not in the exact right spot. I guess I could send it to Wexler with the other one I still have to send in. Its only a few bucks to see if it is indeed a new one.

I guess it could be 6. Its hard to get good photos due to the surface being so bumpy and shiny...trying to line up the markers. I struggled to get the lines coming off the "Y" so I tried on a steep angle. The other 2 look like they are there.
