Coins my son has found

Hi guys . My son and I have been collecting for about a year and there is a few of his coins we are not sure about. Hopefully you guys can help. He writes down all the details and values and these are driving him nuts. The 67 and 69 pennies are slightly rotated dies. Others are self explanatory. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you are asking. It should be obvious that all of the coins are PMD, post mint damaged and worth face value. I see nothing that would add value, spend them. BTW welcome to CT.

Hey, welcome to CT. I notice that although you became a member last year, this is your first posting. Good for you. Don't let us discourage you in your CoinQuest. If you don't have it, get a Red Book (Yeoman - A Guidebook Of United States Coins). The prices are mostly fictional, but the trends and information are correct. As a first step, if a coin looks damaged, it probably is. Don't refrain from posting pictures and asking. People might get snippy but not hostile until you start demanding that you have the most valuable error found by man. Above all, enjoy yourselves.

Sorry buddy. All the Dimes and the Quarter are damaged. The Cents are normal circulation wear and tear and environmental toning.

Some of the coins look like they were run over by vehicles on the street, and way too much weather exposure. Not sure this belongs in the error coin section.

 

Eddie. Good for you brother! Keep having fun with your son. I wish I had picked up this hobby when my son was little. World needs more Dads that do stuff with their kids learning together!

 

Best way to check for rotated dies is to first get some 2x2's and draw lines as in the pics. Then you can either staple them or add a paper clip as I have done. The you can clearly see the degree of rotation. Some say that anything under 15 degrees of rotation isn't worth keeping, But if you like'em keep'em. Either way your spending valuable time with your son and good luck to you!

 

Sorry if I offended you guys. I did buy a red book. I dont know anything About confition so no its not obvious . working full time busy as h*** trying to make time for it and I don't give too much access to the boy on the Internet so my apologies but I'm learning as I go. I thought damaged or not rare is rare so I'm guessing they are not rare. I'll try to keep up mor . Thanks

Thanks. I became a member when I was on vacation but I've been home every night by 7 last few months and we do at least an hour on coins and watching videos. Thanks

 

A suggestion: You two fellows go through the Redbook, find an issue or two you like and can afford and start putting together a set. The days of collecting much through pocket change are gone.

And don’t pay attention to YouTube videos and books saying how rich you can get with change. The chances of finding anything like they describe are a million to one against you.

That’s a great age to start collecting I was 8 when I started back in 1969. Fortunately he has you to help. Keep up the fun you two!

I was 5 when I saved my first coins. I'm now 65 and I've been collecting ever since. 60 years and still learning. Glad to hear your story.

 

Coin collecting can be very time consuming, yet enjoyable especially if your sharing the interest with your son. Might considering going to the bank and getting a couple penny rolls to cherry pick from. Hopefully you'll find something interesting and valuable. Enjoy coin collecting, its a hobby for most of us. Eddie, don't let some of these folks get to you. keep doing what you're doing! if you want an inexpensive way to have some fun go buy a $25 box of lincoln cents and look for wheats! also, the red book they mention is around $15.
