I'm assuming most of us make a decent living seeing as we collect the thing many people don't have enough of to buy food or clothing or homes or many basic necessities, yet here we are coming unglued over having to fork over a mere pittance extra to purchase things that are not required to live. As a Californian who has, for all of his working life, paid a tax on everything imaginable, I just have to laugh.

When the internet was new, sales tax wasn't collected. Also, it was collected just 1-time on something (a car, a can of tomatoes, etc.).

Why should the same coin or bill get taxed an infinite number of times by greedy states and pols ?

They do where required and as they grow more and more will be required to in more states.

Regardless of whether or not they collect it the buyer is still responsible to pay it where applicable.

People keep acting like these are some new charge it isn't, they just aren't getting away skirting it anymore.

If people don't like the tax contact your representatives and work to have your state laws changed not blame the entities doing what they legally have too

Gosh, I don't know. The same reason any other used anything incurs sales tax when you buy it?

I mean, yeah, it seems silly to tax money. But then again, it seems silly to pay more than face value for it, doesn't it?

Why should a $1,000 bill which gets sold 5 times within 1 year get taxed each time ?

    Unfair and excessive, IMO.

Sales taxes have gotten obscene. That's the REAL greed in our society.....money-grubbing governments.:D

I bought a few modern coins from a seller in Colorado today, and I wasn't charged Sales Tax. I'm in florida.

There's certainly something not right. I mean, if it were dealers flipping it, they wouldn't be paying sales tax on each transaction. In the past, sales between individuals have (in my experience) been "under the radar" and not taxed, whether or not they should have been.

I suppose it's convenient for legislators to take the point of view that the Internet blurs the lines between wholesale and retail transactions, selling and reselling, and they might as well just tax it all so they don't miss anything. But I sure don't feel like a retailer when I sell an unwanted Christmas tchotchke on eBay, and while I (or the giver) already paid sales tax on it, I sure don't want to have to deal with the paperwork of reseller certificates and whatnot...

My state doesn't charge sales tax on coins, currency or bullion. That is the problem. EBay is too lazy to enforce their rules to follow States laws.

everyone knew there would be glitches, pointing them out to them is the only way it’s going to get fixed. Not a fan of a lot of their policies but this really is a daunting task they have to do and they have a lot more and more important categories than coins.
