I have a proof frankie, it is a cameo, and it has a fingerprint on it (i think it's a fingerprint)

You can't see it unless you hold it a certain way, even then it is hard to see.

So, should I leave it or tryand get it off?

If I should get it off, how do I do it?

I would leave it alone, or go for the big bucks, and ask NCS to do it.

If a fingerprint has been on a coin for more than a couple of weeks - you can't get it off. It is etched into the metal forever.

The slightest mark on a proof coin will send me insane, even a spec of dust in the airtight or slab will draw my eye to it every time I view it.

I have a silver britannia which somehow required a massive print on the queens head, it looked so bad I thought I may as well try to wipe it with alcohol etc and swabs.

    Didn't do anything.

    does it lower the grade?

you can barely see it, and it may not be a fingerprint

Stainless , I'd leave it alone , it does lower the grade & value , by how much I couldn't tell . Still a nice coin though .

    Absolutely correct!

However, if it is very new, a quick bath in acetone may remove it.

Only pure acetone from a paint store, home center, druggist or chemical supply house should be used.. DO NOT use acetone-type nail polish remover, as it contains additives which can do irreparable harm to the coin.

It will remove the fingerprint but also will remove the proof finish.

BTW: I got it off, thanks to....well, i can't tell you his name or how I did it because it was kinda risky.

Pure acetone should nopt remove any of the finish as it will only remove organic material.

I'm glad to hear that you resolved it.

I'm just one of many people who can say from experience - Not so.

Please let us know in a month or so whether it has come back. There are techniques that will seem to remove prints, but only temporarily.
