Hi, while I certainly am wary of random sellers or eBay altogether, I felt a bit adventurous and who knows what kind of nuggets can be found. Cheap unpopular/small coins with vague/wrong attribution can hint its genuineness. I stumbled onto two Athenian owls of smaller denomination that strike odd. Same exact flan, obverse and reverse orientation, and strike. The roughness, however, appears different. Could they be modern casts? I originally thought being the same coin listed twice, before checking the minute roughness details. Could be lighting though... Here they are: Owl #1 Owl #2 Speaking of owls, I also came across this nice siglos with the owl countermark. Some people are seeking them out. Already got'em on two different sigloi of mine. Gotta keep a healthy budget for more interesting rarities. Banker's Mark Owl on Siglos Original Listing
What could be more interesting? I see nothing about the hemiobols that would make me even slightly interested in either.
Both owls were listed by the same seller. A quick feedback check at toolhaus.org shows this seller to be an obvious fraud who appears to now be unlisted on eBay. Both siglos were also listed by the same seller, but not the same person selling the owls. I've no reason to suspect this seller of dishonesty, so my guess is that it was listed once, didn't sell and so was relisted. However, when I checked the seller's other listings, I found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Greek-Silv...069656?hash=item1a87988618:g:76YAAOSwGzBduzuc The listing includes the size, weight and edge photos. Yet something about the coin bothers me. Is it tooled?
