Spock, Iam fairly new here but have read your posts for a long time. I have enjoyed and learn from them. I wish you the best and hope to hear from you soon. Good things happen to good people and although I have never met you I think good things will happen for you. See ya soon
Like Jack and Phoenix, I thought something far worse had happened! I dont know what your job was, or anything like that - but things can pick up. Heck, maybe you can try something new? Well, best of luck!
Sorry to hear about the loss of your job. You are a strong. intelligent person who will will survive this. I've showed up at moms doorstep at times where I hit Rock Bottom. (I thought I was at Rock Bottom at the time but I really wasn't.) Hopefully unemployment insurance will help to hold you over while you are in between jobs. With your vast numismatic knowledge you may be able to find a job at a local coin shop to hold you over. Why not do something you like? Just think of how many references you would receive from Coin Talk. Hopefully a year or less from now, you will be able to look back at this traumatic time in your life and laugh.
As said above, these sorts of setbacks are temporary, the important thing is to focus on the turns your life is taking and seek opportunity. Don't worry about buying coins, they will still be available when you are ready again. In the meantime you've got an incredible collection to enjoy, and a place to come and talk about it.
Spock: I, for one, agree with Jack! I thought that you were ill, or something. Still, I am very sorry to hear about your situation, and I have come to really enjoy your postings. Please continue to join us whenever you can. Frank
Sorry about the job situation, Spock. I think most of us have been through it before, and can agree it's no fun. About the coin collecting on hold, don't let that get you down. Sometimes being in a place like this among friends is even better. Guy~
Spock so sorry to hear this news mate but get out there and start looking for a new and better job, as for the coin collecting man you could start up yourself as has been said here, whatever you decide to do good luck with it.
In my final english exam I wrote an essay on 'bouncing back' and it was a true like story on how I lost my first job and thought my life was over. Only for me to find a much better job soon after. If I had not gotten fired I'd still be in that sucky job as opposed to the one I'm in now. I have no idea if this helps or what.
I'm sorry to hear that man. I know you won't be getting many Indian proofs in the near future but the great thing about our hobby is that you can do it on any, or no, budget. It's not really your thing to go so downmarket I guess but you can hunt dealer boxes of foreign stuff priced at 30cents a pop for the good stuff that's worth a ton more (I love doing that!) or roll search. You've got a good eye so, like others have said you could do a little dealing on the side for some money. If you're going that route I'd say learn the top 100 VAMS off by heart with identifiers, keep all the Krause info you can in your head and go cherry picking. Whatever you decide to do I'd encourage you to keep dabbling with coins, even if it's just looping all of your pocket change. Most importantly 1) keep posting! 2) keep your chin up. All the best to you.
Thank you everyone for your heartfelt, sincere, and kind replies. Everyone's time on this planet is short. In that short time a person really has to be lucky to be blessed with the love and support of so many people. I thank you for just being there. As i was walking away from my job there were lot of people who were very sad to see me go. It is indeed very nice to be able to touch and influence so many people in a positive way especially in a heartless cruel corporate America where once your position goes people start to avoid you. I have no such problems on CoinTalk. I read all of your replies to my thread yesterday but was so overwhelmed by emotion I preferred not to say anything at the time. More than one post bought a tear to my eye for the sheer intensity and warmth displayed. I will respond to every one of your posts personally either on the thread or via PM as appropriate. To those of you who have asked the question its only a job loss and I will get another one my personal situation is a little different and only a miracle can save me. Thank god I believe in miracles and mostly I believe in you to keep my hopes and dreams alive. What started off as a journey to collect coins has now become something more. I hope that one day I am able to create an environment where the truly unhappy, troubled, and underprivileged are able to find true happiness. In summary a big THANKS to you all. I would not be the same person or collector if it were not for you all. God Bless. spock1k
Spock, Sorry to hear about the layoff. I can relate all too well and all I can say is keep your chin up and hustle. Most of the coins I buy these days are strictly for resale. Part of the hustle. Yep, it sucks when I have to pass on what I want but in tougher times it's a must. You've made a tough decision and I applaud you for that man. I really do. I've laid off coins for years at one point but always said "eventually". Eventually happened for me and it will happen for you my friend. Take a breather, clear your mind then jump back into the job market. Someone is looking for you. They just don't know it yet. clembo
I dont need a baby sitter for the coins. I need a baby soitter for me right now but dont worry I am still going to win the mods versus members contest
Ben Franklin once said, "All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable and those that move." I learned a lot form this cryptoquip, and Spock1K, you resemble the piece of mankind that moves. You never cease to inspire others about your hobby. I suggest you keep doing what you are doing here on cointalk, and may God Bless you with good fortune for your next job. You coin collecting days are not over, just halted. Finish that collection, because one day they may be all you got!
Thats the problem you are parked up there and i am down here fighting the clingons beam me up already
