I have no clue but they are from Detroit so you're good there. ;)

Something just isn't sitting right here though.

Yeah, I'll get to researching them on at least google this week. I got them awful cheap. I have a bunch of Detroit and various Michigan nationals, these will fit right in the paper collection. Let me know what you find out as well Dan.

    Hello Jack....

Well to be honest, I know nothing of these productions. I did a basic search and only found the link to the EBay listing. What I do know is that the Series 1934 Notes were under the already established guidelines of the BEP and individual Federal Reserve Bank Notes had all been called in.
Would be interesting to know about them.
It is only a gut feeling and I could be wrong, but I think it is a Private printing much like many "Silver Rounds".
    Beautiful vignets I must admit.

    Regards,

I am guessing those can't pass as legal tender, but Crispy notes!

These are actual specimens from the City of Detroit. I know that the $1 and fractional denominations were in fact issued, but these specimens were probably proposed but never actually used. From 1932-1937 numerous communities issued items in the guise of paper money during money shortages.

I believe you got these at a bargain, I would have gone in the $150-200 range for these - because of the vignettes on them.

BTW do you collect MI nationals?

Wow - Great looking notes Jack - No idea what they are worth. Sounds like Scottishmoney has at least a start for you to research history. Good Luck and great find!

They are Depression Scrip from the City of Detroit. Contrary to what Scottishmoney indicated, the Mitchell/Shafer book on Depression Scrip says none of the Detroit notes were issued although millions of dollars were printed. When these appear they are usually in serial number sets but they do not appear that often. This is the first set of specimens I have seen for Detroit.

Was it a deal? You bet. I would expect between $100-150 per note.

I dont collect Nationals per se, I just collect Detroit and Michigan non-sports items, and when it's coins or paper related, thats a bonus !! This was a big bonus !!

    Jack....

Looks like the real deal! The below statement is from Mr. D. C. K. a noted authority on Paper Money. I kindly asked his opinion. See I told you I knew nothing about these!! :smile

"They are specimen notes. During the bank holiday era/depression era many municipalities issued scrip like this. They are collectable - an extensive catalog was written years ago by Neil Shafer."

Wow, THANK YOU for the great news, I admit, I am a bit jazzed, lol. That makes twice in a month I have hit the Ebay motherlode:D

Now, the next question would be, where do I send these for "slabbing". Normally I would not bother, but with the value vs cost, I think I'll go ahead just to protect them.

    Who's the best at paper?

Just to clarify, I have seen many of the $1 Dollar notes, they seem to be fairly common - I presumed thus that they had been circulated. These notes are probably some of the more attractive Depression era emergency currency anywhere.
