Well the boss is always wheeling and dealing. Today was scary. He's reading the coin dealer lines and sees a dealer looking for a bunch of silver eagles. Paying good money so he calls the guy and they set up a deal. I heard him on the phone asking about toning etc. I was the one that put the package together in the end. So he tells me who's buying them and that he's not worried about minor toning. Yep. Abon is the buyer. He has figured out my great respect for these guys. I told him toning isn't a problem because they will most likely be dipped and slapped into MS70 holders. Now there were some nice coins as one would expect but at a glance I doubt MS70. More like 67-69. Now in fairness I can't say exactly what will happen to these coins. Just a hunch shall we say. Business is business. He paid a fair price and I DO know Abon pays as does my boss. Just kind of an odd feeling for me. clembo
I don't have as much problem with selling to abon as I do have buying. I know its perpetuating the problem but if not you then someone else. he will get them somewhere. At least the ones you sold to him are genuine. Richard
What I've learned at the nursery where I work, is just to stay out of the business portion, because I know my time will come, dealing with pay-days, etc. Watering the plants and ringing people up is all I can do, but you're in a special situation. You get to see what goes on behind the lines!
That pretty much sums it up guys. Business is business and he'll get the coins somewhere. He pays well and promptly. As for what Jack said I believe my boss did sell a bunch of AU "clean cheek" Morgans to him before I was working at that shop. He had no idea but believe me I filled him in. clembo
A lot of the national dealers who overgraded AU Morgans as BU are strong buyers of slider Morgans in quantity. If you are at a show, they will buy everyone that they can. They know which coins have the "right look" and will pass as BUs.
Which is a major justification for slabbing (not meant to imply I am a fan)... you can generally count on a slider not being "suddenly" BU.
