another program that will run 10 plus years give me a break. http://www.numisnews.tv/New-National-Parks-Quarters.htm an excerpt If you enjoy changing quarter designs, you may be happy for many more years. Legislation was introduced in the House Wednesday calling for a new 11-year series of circulating quarters starting in 2010. The quarters are to be "emblematic of a national park or other national site in each State, the District of Columbia, and each territory of the United States."
Wait until they see what the USPS has done. First you'll have state bird quarters. Later state flower quarters.
well if its any consolation this new program can last 20 years i think ill go start hoarding the regular washingtons i am thinking they will get scarce if they ever come back that is
Well at least it is only introduced - I hope it doesn't pass. And don't forget to buy stock in the album companies(whitman, dansco, etc.).
What difference does it make whether they start a new design program or revert to the original design? It's still a quarter. At least there will be some variety other than a date change each year. For those that actually look at their collections on a regular basis, I would have to think a different coin design in each hole would be better than a hundred coins with the same thing on them. Of course, thats just me. GUy~
On the positive side, this program will attract more people into the hobby, only if it is collecting new quarter designs every year. Usually though, these type of collectors are only attracted to the novelty aspect of the coins and unfortunately never venture into any other coin series and when the "new" quarters reach the end of its series the new collector stops also, believing what they've collected will fund their retirement one day. Only a fraction of these collectors may continue further. Personally, I wont collect these. Its going to become a never ending thing, like kanga said, it'll turn into state bird then state flower...where will it end, will it come to placing each states most popular landfill on the reverse of the quarter? Maybe. Im not happy with what they're doing and the direction our quarter design has gone. Just my honest opinion. But, maybe I'm just too old fashioned.
as most of you have pointed out this is not the direction we want this thing to go. its sad how the mint is coming out with 10 year programs wih regularity i think they should bring back the 2 cents and 3 cents while they are at it
Oooohhh... the Vice Presidents on the newly redesigned 2 cent coin - a new 10 year program. Great suggestion!
what about the STATE QUARTER PROGRAM? Ive been collecting em.. but mostly looking for errors.. nice and fun to collect though! Whats the thing.. is it worth to colelct em? Txs!
Seriously hope this doesn't pass. I liked the 50 state quearter program, but enough is enough already... this has to end at some point right? Let the eagle come back for at least a year...
Howabout a 10 year run on the Dime? Gotta be something we can do..... Presidential Assassinations....no, not enough to even cover 10 years even if we added Attempted Assassinations...... Think think think....
well i am planning to leave the hobby for good (modern comems only) after next year i might not buy any more commem coins. its really sad
Hmmm, At first I thought this was some prank as the HR number comes up as something else, but upon further research (they like to change bill numbers for some reason) this did prove to be accurate. I did look at the whole bill and found a couple of interesting things.... `(8) DESIGNS AFTER END OF PROGRAM- Upon the completion of the coin program under this subsection, the design on-- `(A) the obverse of the quarter dollar shall revert to the same design containing an image of President Washington in effect for the quarter dollar before the institution of the 50-State quarter dollar program; and `(B) notwithstanding the fourth sentence of subsection (d)(1), the reverse of the quarter dollar shall contain an image of General Washington crossing the Delaware River prior to the Battle of Trenton. ------- And then there was this tidbit...... SEC. 201. SILVER BULLION COIN. Section 5112 of title 31, United States Code, is amended by inserting after subsection (t) (as added by title I of this Act) the following new subsection: `(u) Silver Bullion Investment Product- `(1) IN GENERAL- The Secretary shall strike and make available for sale such number of bullion coins as the Secretary determines to be appropriate that are exact duplicates of the quarter dollars issued under subsection (t), each of which shall-- `(A) have a diameter of 3.0 inches and weigh 5.0 ounces; `(B) contain .999 fine silver; `(C) have incused into the edge the fineness and weight of the bullion coin; `(D) bear an inscription of the denomination of such coin, which shall be `quarter dollar'; and `(E) not be minted or issued by the United States Mint as so-called `fractional' bullion coins or in any size other than the size described in paragraph (A). ------ A 5 oz. .999 three inch diameter "quarter"??????
Maybe Speaker of the House Wives quarters , and then their favorite baseball team quarters . I'd buy millions of them . Man I'll be rich . rzage
