Fantastic news, Nicholas! I have ordered a copy, and am looking over the PDF now (although I will wait until it is in hand to actually read any articles). It is beautifully formatted with some great illustrations.

Just purchased a copy of the PDF. Won't have time to really dig into it until this weekend but it looks great. Congrats Nick, the authors and everyone else involved on getting another issue of this great new journal out the door.

I recommend Karl Popper's "Open Society and it Enemies" vol I to anyone seeking a well rounded understanding of Plato's ideology. (as I recall he wished to ban silver coinage - as well as all poetry)

People who take life in general themselves in particular too seriously are not an invention of the modern world.

I'd never heard that--I bet it is somewhere in the Laws, he got a little crotchety toward the end :)

    Hello Nicholas

That Plato 'got crotchety towards the end' is a standard position that Sir Karl Popper considered in detail, but rejected. I again recommend reading Popper's study in full.

I think a new thread would be necessary to take this forward - here I just point out that the version of Plato you paint - in the linked text - seems to me a lot like the one the young Maynard Keynes adopted, deriving from his reading of G E Moore.

Given the enormous influence Keynes later had, on the 20th century ideology of money, I feel this is worth thinking carefully about.....

I think Plato was clear enough in the dialogue I mention. I wish I had time to read Popper but I'll surely add it to the "some day" list.

Just to give this thread a quick bump, I wanted to say that I received my copy in the mail today; beautifully designed and professionally printed (especially my article ;)). Congratulations for another great publication, Nicholas. I can't wait to delve into it, and I highly recommend it to other CoinTalk members. There's some really great content in here, and we really are lucky to have this new publication as a vibrant forum for diverse voices in the ancients community.

Got my copy a few days ago. What a generous and handsome volume. Congrats to Nicholas and all involved! Some wonderful reading here. If you are interested in the “falling horseman” coin type, you will want to read Shawn Caza’s exhaustive treatment of that complicated issue. Well done to all.
