Never thought I'd do it . . .

Actually the more and more the us coins debate over grading and the gradeflation and tpgs bs. Plus the flood of Chinese fakes getting better and better all the time makes me more and more inclined to take a walk on the dark side. Though what’s really got me intrigued lately is mideval British isles coinage as it’s likely coinage my ancestors handled

CAC stand for Certified Acceptance Corp. They add a sticker (referred to as a bean) to Third Party Graded coins, certifying, in their opinion, they are in the upper level of the assigned grade. There's a fee of course.

Well I can't be sure but, judging from the increase in population on the CAC website of the one coin I needed to get stickered, it appears that my submission has been processed. I asked the submitter if he can look up and send me the results, but I haven't heard back from him. Sitting on pins & needles . . .

Just Curious!! Was the CAC population increase on one of the "Double Eagles"?

Nope . . . enough of those coins have beans that I probably wouldn't have noticed a change.

It's usually 5-6 business days for results from the time they got them until the results and return shipping email shows up

I don't have the coins back yet, but I do have results.

I have to admit, I am surprised by a few of the misses, but I'll learn from them. It may not have helped that only two of the coins were not either seated or gold coinage.

6 out of 20. Dang that stinks. I always ask CAC to comment on why coins don't pass. Most of the time they write me a 1 or 2 word note, but occassionally they don't comment. Not sure if the graders don't have time or what. You know what's funny, though? They have only once told me a coin was over graded. There's always a hidden problem that either A. I missed. Or B. I think they imagined it made up :D.

Yeah, it ends up being an expensive submission on a per sticker basis.

Also reaffirms your past hesitation in leaning on their opinion.

Did the coin your customer wanted, and forced your hand, sticker? Not sure which of the coins submitted was the coin in play.

Yup. I thought XF45 was generous on the part of NGC, and was sure it would cross to XF40 at PCGS, so I rolled the dice . . . and it was worth it.

I like CAC but have never been afraid to purchase coins that are unstickered. I know how to grade, so if it has a sticker, that's nice but, if it's a nice coin that I can get for a good price without a sticker, then even better. I also don't believe that malarkey that all good coins have been to the bean factory, either. I think only a small percentage of them have.

I generally have only sent, as a collector, tough date/MM plus or PQ coins. You have a better outcome than I normally receive. I believe you haven't any reason for concern. I only generally submit Gold coins of relatively higher value, so I was interested to see if either of your better date Double Eagles made the "cut".

    Thanks for the "update".
