As I continue to go through sets from the collection from a co-worker I am surprised that only 1 group of uncirculated mint sets have gold toning. The 1975/1976 Uncirculated sets (8) all have toning while none of the other sets (18 other sets) are toned. They were all stored the same way but something about the coin packaging/handeling caused toning. Below shows pictures from one 1975 UC set compared to a 1974 UC set Anyone else see a similar experience?
That's a good question Chris. The odd part is sets from 74 and 78 from this collection have almost no toning. It had to be something specific to these couple of years that contributed to this distinct gold toning. Wish I knew if it was common or aided by how they were stored in combination with whatever changed at the mint. Thanks
