It may a generic Silver Bullion round. Any other markings on the edge?

Looks like something from the Golden Gate Bridge gift shop.

@Nuke44- Are you satisfied that it is in fact actually silver?

EDIT: Let's do a little research here. Where did you get the coin? Did you buy it? If so, how much did you pay?

The coin edge has .999 fine silver engraved on its edge so I’m pretty satisfied that its Silver. The coin was inherited from my father in-law. I’m really stumped because I’ve been able to find every other coin on the net with ease but this one has been elusive.

What is the mark just above the Y in history?

    Very observant, I didn’t see that. Looks like J.O. Here’s a pic

I'm doing some searching on this end as well. No joy so far!

The JO are probably the designers initials. It was probably minted at a private or third party Mint.

If you inherited it from your father in law can you give more clues, like a time frame? When did you get it? When did he get it? Where from? How long did he have it? Had he every been to the Golden Gate Bridge?

I inherited some random coins from my father in-law 2 years ago when he passes away. Most of the coins were 1oz silver without COA. He had a very interesting and diverse collection. One of his favorite things to do in his retirement was travel across the country and visit coin shops. My guess is that if he saw something that he liked, he bought it. Most of his collection is sold by now, some coins were quite rare and had value. For example, there was a United Nations coin from 1947 and only 500 were minted. I wonder if this coin is possibly in that category as it appears to be nowhere on the net.

It's a silver round. Worth the price of silver.

    Yep, a silver round.

Another thought (perhaps just stating the obvious)... Looks like this was issued in 1987 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the GGB.

I'm just guessing. Not a clue about this item or the GGB in general.

That would make sense. You might very well be correct. I still wonder why this coin is hard to track down. Wonder how many were made....

It's just an ounce of silver and it makes perfect sense to me but what do I know? We've determined in another thread that I'm a nut. :)
