I was going through some of my recent Native American Dollars, 2017, 2018 & 2019, and realized there have been more than just the usual 3 varieties, P, D & S, being minted each year. For instance, in 2017 there was the usual P, D & S and then the additional 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated variety. In 2018 there was the usual P, D & S and then the additional Reverse Proof variety. Now in 2019 there is the usual P, D & S and then the 50th Anniversary Moon Landing “Rocketship” variety. Is this Rocketship variety truly a special / different finish, or is it just a gimmick to get us to buy more coins? Have I got them all, are there others? Is there somewhere that provides a list of all the different Native American finish varieties that are produced by the Mint each year? Thanks in advance.
I was (happily) building a collection of the "Soaring Eagle" variety of Sacagawea business strikes in MS68 when the US Mint in its infinite wisdom decided to change the reverse of this coin from one year to the next. It wasn't bad enough that they created the State Quarters, America the Beautiful Quarters, Prez Dollars and Crappy Zincolns just so they could sell more coins from year to year. They had to mess with a coin that was beautifully designed and could have remained so for 25-50 years. That's when I quit buying coins from the US Mint! Chris
I just realized the 2019 Coin & Currency Set has an Enhanced Native Sacagawea in it! How many more varieties are there?
At least the Sac's have a plain edge. You don't have to consider the orientation of any edge inscriptions.
I think the 2000-2008 Sacagawea dollars have the plain edge and the 2009-2019 Native American dollars have the etched edges.
Ah ha! My mistake. I turned the page and found out there's a difference between the Sac's and the Native Americans. Actually I didn't even know there was a Native Americans issue. I rarely pay attention to anything after 1964.
