Re submit. Id say its a 65 or 66, Sure is nice!if you crack it and resubmit it, is there anyway to get that dirt off without wrecking anything?

thats exactly what I was looking at, But it isnt there on the other photos, so I think its just reflection off the slab

Go for it if you think it could make it. My guess was 66 but I don't have the coin in hand. There may be some things not visible in the photos that would prevent it from reaching 66 but I see no reason why it would not grade 65.

That's a tough call. Which of your children do you love the most?

If I had to choose I would probably have to go with the Princess because I can't recall seeing one that nice before. Then again I can't recall seeing such a nice $10 Indian either.

The mintage of the Princess is about triple that of the Indian but I have no idea what the survival rates are for these coins.

According to my April 2007 PCGS Pop Report the 1862 $1 Princess in MS-65 has a population of 67 with 27 higher and the 1913 $10 Indian in MS-64 has a population of 216 with 58 higher (one as high as MS-67). So it would appear the Princess is a rarer coin in its grade than the Indian although a bump to MS-65 would put it (the Indian) in a population of 47 (46+1) with 12 higher (using the population of April '07).

¿Want more proof of "buy the coin, not the slab"? I surely wouldn't mind that so referred to MS-64 over many of the 65's and even some 66's I have seen. That is a nice clean and free of chatter piece. If thee care not for it, for it's alleged grade is not lofty enough for thine to collect, perhaps one should consider that my numismatic harem would be a more suitable abode for her?

Well it is a beautiful 64. I agree it should be higher from what I can see from the pictures. Great coin spock1. Where is your CAC sticker? This one should certainly qualify. :)

Given the huge bump at 65 and 66, isn't it worth the submission? There is no way it could come in any lower! If you get it back 2 grades higher, you could turn it for a world-class rarity of some sort. Heck, you could even fill your gas tank with the profits! Mike

The question that should really be asked is why didn't it grade higher ? Yeah, it's an exceptionally clean coin, virtually mark free. But what other attributes count the most for a coin to qualify for gem grade ? Luster and quality of strike.

Luster is a tough call based on pics, even really good pics. Quality of strike is a bit easier, but even it can be difficult at times because you just can't turn the coin in the light to judge the depth and clarity of some details.

Personally, I think the coin is a solid 65 unless the luster is really lacking, which I don't think it is. But the quality of strike just isn't there IMO for the coin to go 66.

Either way, he got a very nice coin for 64 money. And since a 65 is more than double what a 64 cost, it was a smart buy. This is the kind of coin that all collectors should look for. This is the kind of coin that all collectors should have the patience to wait for. You don't have any idea how many he looked at before deciding on this coin - THAT'S why patience is important.

And I don't care what the grade is, a 64 a 63 a 66 - it's all the same. You buy coins that are premium quality for the grade, any grade, and you will not go wrong. This coin is the epitome of buy the coin, not the slab.

    Nice coin Spock!!

I was going to guess this was a pcgs coin. I nailed this coins grade. Strike i believe was the main reason. It wouldnt surprise me if you sent this one in three times, that it would come back three different grades.

Have a well known dealer send it in.More the better, if he was sending in a group of coins with the same quality. Would not surprise me if it were to come back a 66. This coin I believe is a PQ coin for sure!
