Without oversight internet forums very quickly devolve into mudslinging cesspools. It is important to understand the PCGS forum is simply a part of their marketing program. There are plenty of places on the internet to have open discussions about controversial issues and self-publish research. I've been a member of forums where it is common place for persons to get banned simply because the moderator (or friend thereof) doesn't like a person. Thus is life. Don't dwell on it. ...maybe post threads, similar to what you used to post over there, on this forum? I'd reckon the members and moderators here would be appreciative of this type of contribution.
What they really need is a: You gotta Shut up button. After a certain number of hits, the user is placed in detention. Too allow one poster to post 100's of times a day suggests counseling is required.
Roger got banned for pointing out that they had misattributed a 1942 pattern cent as a "High Relief." Roger literally wrote the book on 1942 patterns.
I understand he's a fixture relative to his extensive research, books etc. I found his fixation on cat hating however, to put him in my weirdo classification box. Regarding misattributions, I believe they're fair game and that they need to be fixed. Just ask Sejoga how I feel. I brought down one of his overly promoted misattributions, so obvious that even a nine year old would notice. In fact a nine year old did. Took months to get it done as he flat out refused to pull the listing. That now goes in my punk box.
People don't get banned for pointing out a misattribution, that isn't what happened. This is the problem with these types of reports, people get upset their friend was banned or someone they enjoyed reading and it leads to one sided and/or emotional responses especially since the offending behavior is often deleted.
Charville: Revealing my growing list of unwritten rules BrettPCGS Posts: 117 mod October 19, 2019 7:45PM in U.S. Coin Forum Heather is a stickler for simplicity. As such, we only have seven forum rules. Some other boards I've been on, in this hobby and elsewhere, have a list of rules, terms, and conditions so long that you'd need a team of lawyers to determine if you're allowed to even post. I've been imploring Heather to let me add more rules, but she won't let me. This is her forum, I just work here. So below I'm working on my own list of unwritten rules: 8. Late night libel. The forum moderating team consists of four adult human beings, who all live on the west coast, and typically attempt to get some sleep each and every night. Intentionally saving trouble for late night isn't permissible. In my own mental ledger when you break our easy to follow rules after-hours it's two strikes, not one. 9. If you spend your time attempting to find "the line" on what's appropriate or inappropriate on this forum you'll simply be banned. "Challenges" to be banned will also result in an automatic ban. 10. No matter the number of posts or badges you have to your name, no one is grandfathered in to intentionally wasting our time. That's it so far, I'll keep updating this as we go along or until Heather sees this and deletes it... I've never seen this type of censorship or forum rules except at PCGS; arbitrary no real warnings, no rationale given, apparently they want a mutual admiration society and no criticisms of the way they run it. People may try to buy insurance for themselves against being banned by praising the forum and PCGS to the skies but all it will take is a comment that is misinterpreted or judged a violation of unwritten rules and poof you are pulled from the forum or ghosted. If anything the PCGS forum is an example of what happens when you have 4 moderators straining at gnats in order to find a cause to punish an honest comment they don't like. I've known a number of members there who were banned multiple times and found a way to reopen an account. And though they can make their own rules, it doesn't take away from how ruthless and abusive bannings will affect the reputation of PCGS as a "my way or the highway" company.
As of today, the Cert Verification and Coin Facts pages for the coin in question do not call it "High Relief." Does anybody know if they used to?
LOL LOL LOL What a surprise they banned people who decided to use the PCGS forum to bash them especially ones that were combative. They put up with FARRRRRRR more of that than basically any other company would. For a hobby that has an elderly base there is certainly a lot of middle school style drama. I'm surprised some of them lasted as long as they did. If some people can't handle that it's not the mud slinging wild west anymore so be it. PS if you get banned multiple times from the same place the problem is almost always you.
I sent a member, a well known bst bump whore and excessive advertiser, a PM letting him know his customer service sucks. Within the hour I was bam bammed. The little baby told his Mamma. 10 years simply poof. Sorta irritating but all my guys have since died.
#8... a bit of putting all the eggs in one basket. I hope this was a joke about double points. I can't believe PCGS forum (CU) has no east coast affiliates (at least) they can trust to help keep the ship afloat during the wee hours. But ultimately... their house, their rules.
That was basically a direct response to what had been happening over the long weekend with an accusation and response thread. They didnt get banned for it but obviously that's not something you want becoming a pattern. The list was really just a shot across the bow for the most part from some people pushing it over a long period of time.
Yea a lot of times things can look worse than they are out of context. I usually read the various forums at some point and recognized where that came from. Brett had actually said for the first thread starter to send the coin back so they could examine it but it ended up just getting sold and was a big thing for a few days.
I found the questionable thread, and checked it out. Here's the link to the thread. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1027137/revealing-my-growing-list-of-unwritten-rules/p1
I don't have a dog in the fight but that post came after this where Brett had the last post https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1027105/the-other-side-of-the-story and that was a response to this where the last posts were Brett again https://forums.collectors.com/discu...-a-so-called-liberty-seated-dollar-specialist I can certainly understand why he posted what he did after that weekend. Despite what some claim I seriously doubt they want to spend their time having to deal with some of what gets posted
Thanks again. Discussions with references to other threads are much more insightful/better with links provided, when possible. At least to me.
For sure. I didn't really want to get in the middle, it's just that I had seen what seemed to be the reasons why and wanted to show more context as opposed to what was being presented.
Not really going to start a fight, but ever seen when I got moderated by the "Mod Squad". That was a fan favorite for many people at how absurd it was
