A82C7D8D-83D0-4C21-8170-38AE9CAE03BE.jpeg This photo is part of the collection of about 40 Morgan Silver Dollars my Dad had. 2 of them seem to have been painted or dyed for some reason this weird greenish blue. From what I've been reading their C31952FC-D53D-4D3B-8925-B0204D18BE2A.jpeg value lays mostly in their silver content. I'm guessing I shouldn't worry about the color. Or should I?

IMO all Morgan Dollars have some collector value, so yes I would try to remove the color.

The first thing I would try is giving it a 100% pure acetone bath. NOT nail polish remover. The paint looks pretty thick in some places so you might have to give it several baths changing the acetone every time. Use in a well ventilated room and only in a clean glass container. Acetone will melt plastic.

Once the Acetone has removed all the paint set coin on soft cloth and let it air dry. Acetone evaporates very quickly at room temp. I believe some people do a final rinse in distilled water before they let the coin dry as well.

I grew up in Vegas and my Dad moved there in 1957. I'm thinking these were probably marked by a casino. So I guess my question would be the same as for the weird green colored ones. Just leave them alone? Half these are 1921. So he was definitely interested in that date. I haven't been able to find anything significant about that date other than that was the last year they were minted.

Hmm. your second photo looks interesting. If these were marked by a casino, they may have some crossover value. There are a lot of people who collect Casino Memorabilia.

@Circus I believe you may know something about casino memorabilia. Ever heard casinos doing this?

I would leave them as-is. They may have a little collectibility with the color and especially the stickers. 1921 Morgans arevthe most common date. Many earlier dates were melted down and reminted into '21s.

To my knowledge, the casinos did not mark the silver dollars. It would have been too time-consuming to mark tens of thousands of the old cartwheels.

I have to say I never have seen or heard of a casino doing that. But before you remove it. Post a picture in the exonumia Thread we have a couple of members that collect stickered coins, something along the counterstamped type coins usually it was advertising for political or biz. They generally used paper stickers like stamps. It could be awell known logo in the area that it was done in and needed no wording.

One other thing after looking at the pic a while I would say that it is a water soluble decal and the red is the important thing the yellow circle is what is called a carrier which starts out life clear and tends to yellow with age over time.

Thank You. I will post it there. I also found a few more with another decal that was a white circle with red letters that said "automatic". I'll post that there too.

well after teh melting of the Pitman act and the the recoining in 1921 roughly 1/4 of all Morgan dollars are 1921.

Yeah, I did a little reading last night about the Morgan. All of this is way more interesting to me than I thought it would be. I kept putting this project off because it seemed like an unpleasant task. But Im finding it's actually kind of fun.

This one was listed on the 2x2 for $3.00 It was in a bulk buy with a lot of other over priced items. it is on a 1967 Linc. Like your pic of the automatic it is an advertising gimmick.
