Way cool, John! Thanks for alerting. That will be very interesting.

Where / How did you find this?

Ah! A publication of The American Numismatic Society.

I don't see the book on their site, but it's probably hiding there somewhere.

It always looked like a fascinating organization, but the membership fees are just a little too high for me to explore.

They also posted this great video (my comment is still there):

Anyway, the book appears to be available for pre-order here: https://www.oxbowbooks.com/dbbc/white-gold.html and Amazon lists the release date as January 14, 2020.

I´ve been following this book release for sometime now, it keeps getting re-scheduled. It was supposed to be on the market in 2018 or earlier. Hope this one is really it, but at this point I would not expect anything.

For your dues you get the American Journal of Numismatics which is a top scholarly journal, but most yearly issues have about a dozen specialized articles that are unlikely to interest beginners. Older issues can be found on the secondary market for far less than the dues and if you get a long enough run of them you are likely to find an article of interest in there somewhere. You also get their beautiful quarterly ANS Magazine which has popular articles about some parts of their collection and notices about acquisitions.

I have been a member for many years, but I don't think of my dues as buying publications at a good price. I prefer to think of my membership dues as a donation to a very good cause. The ANS upholds the standard of scholarly ancient numismatics in the US.
