Hello everyone, most of the time it's easy to tell the close AM and the wide A M. Most of the close AM I've seen are touching at the bottom but this one is close but not connected so would like your opinions please. Thank you.
That's close. For it to be wide the space between the AM and ME needs to be basically the same. Here is one of my 99 WAMs for example:
Close AM. Another diagnostic is the engraver’s initials (FG). If you are confused look at the initials for the qualifying font artwork. Good luck.
If you click on the image of the whole coin it should come up pretty well. The images are a couple years old so I haven't taken the coin from its flip in awhile.
I can see it pretty well. But in your photo it makes the A look closer to the T to the right. In the WAMs I have seen the A is centered evenly between the Ts. I use this as a tell if the AM is questionable. Was just wondering if this was a coin that would blow that marker out of the water.
The TAT in STATES has nothing to do with WAM/CAM diagnostics. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html
I know that none of the websites list the TAT as a marker, but take a look at this from my 2000P WAM and CAM Varieties. Someone on another site showed me this and I looked on my 2000P Wam and what do you know the A in states is more centered in a WAM while on a CAM the A is closer to the T to the right.
Was just wondering about your comment: Was just wondering if this was a coin that would blow that marker out of the water. Is this unusual? Thank you for the information.
I made mention of the TAT diagnostic in CCF a few years back but I’m not sure I can claim credit. It was just something else I noticed when flipping 1998, 1999, and 2000 LMCs. I found though that I check the FG font first before looking at the TAT. However, posters posting longer distance pictures may exclude the FG diagnostic making the TAT a more important diagnostic.
