And FDC does not just apply to Proofs spock, it is most often used in referrence to business strikes.
well you may be right but thats what we were told that since the high quality could only be got in proofs they were reserved for that keeping in mind that these was specially before the modern mint.
indian numismatic circle if you can call it that. you see Indian coinage was way ahead of its time during and upto the reign of shahjahan (the moghul emperor) who some nut on pcgs called a trader. after that things started to go downhill and by the time this mohur came into play (rohilkhand) the days of the golden indian coinage was almost over and steadily declining there was no way any coin would be considered an FDC unless it was a freak which both this and the coin i posted last time around are however when milled coinage was reached by some miracle (it was only a century and a half after usa) the finishing was again very poor so even proofs were not FDC but most FDC's were proof so thats how it got stuck. Now notable exceptions are the British India and East india company coinage but they are just that exceptions because they were one of a 100 or so more entity's issuing the coins although they issued the most coins by far
The term FDC is of French origin - it is à fleur de coin, it translates literally as, with the bloom of the die. All it really means when used to describe a coin is that the coin is a coin of high quality or high grade, a gem. In US grading terms that would translate into a coin of MS65 or higher quality. That's about all there is to it. Anyone who says it means something else is either just wrong or doesn't understand the term.
After i bought the coin i am blooming all right. I think i am going to start a 3 month moratorium in July for 3 months to not buy any coins other than those issued by the mint
I am anxiously awaiting the results of the Goldberg auction, particularly for a certain coin. Still nothing as of a few minutes ago.
have you checked their website the pre long beach sale and the millenia sale results are up unless you were waiting for something else
Yes, I got the results late last night, I was the high bidder on four items apparently. I did notice that a couple of the Scottish items which I did not bid on because I thought they would go significantly higher, went for less than estimates. In this auction I bid on darkside items, well darkside for me anyway.
did you get them via email? i didnt get anything from them yet. i will wait till Monday otherwise i will call them tuesday and pay them
No, but I don't get the results from Stacks via email either, just got an invoice about 4-5 days after the auction. The dumb thing I did with Stacks, maybe it was smart, was going for not quite so high credit limit. It keeps me from going overboard, and out of the doghouse.
they sent me a bill over the net. so i will pay them monday or tuesday and i dont think anything can keep you in the doghouse your avtar might be a few grand itself
Yahoo! Happy dance, I got my invoice, high bidder on four of the six lots I bid on, and most happily on that one non gold coin I have wanted since I was a kid. I was just getting a bit anxious that maybe my bids didn't go through etc.
Well it is a USA piece, post civil war, not gold. Something very very fascinating, because it is a throwback to the past.
Seriously that is what I did not care for on the Goldberg auction site, was being able to see my bids afterwards and know they stuck. I had to rebid once, because my bids went poof. At least when I bid on Stacks, I see in my account all of what is going on, same on Heritage. Until this auction I had never registered for their site. Something with their bidding process is a bit antiquated and disconcerting.
you are telling me i was even thinking of bididng through ebay and paying the extra premium but the common sense prevailed my bids also went poof but thankfully i called and emailed to make sure they were back in and i think their customer service is world class but their website isnt on the same boat
I couldn't fathom having to pay an extra 5% to bid through fleaBay, besides have you seen their feedback on eBay, same with Heritage - it bites because the bidding process is NOT foolproof. I have not bid successfully on a Heritage auction yet, but I might this week. So we will see. I sort of wonder looking at a couple of items I was really interested in, that I should have put in serious bids, but I thought they would go much higher, they certainly would have in a London auction. Did I mention what I think of Spinks and Lyon & Turnbull?
