Yeah, I dont know her, but after reading what she has said, I think there is a lot of ego at play. She's not building Hanson's Collection and I think she really wanted to. Or she's afraid that he will build this amazing historical collection and she will have had no part in it.

She is very aggressive, but that's why some people like her. I know I enjoy reading all her blog posts, and show reports, and seeing her coins. She is one of the only dealers what puts the whispered gossip into written words, so the layman like me in Maine can get an idea of the goings on at the big shows, and general "which way is the wind blowing" type of observations. Been reading her many years, and to me she is both very successful and very entertaining. Most dealers dont have a "brand" to their personality, she certainly does! To others, she obviously is too harsh, I get why some people would be turned off. I tend to like the extremes, LOL.

Many members weren't very friendly to her either and constantly trolled an baited her. Most of them deserved how they were being treated by her even-though they like to try and pretend they were a victim

I can say the same thing about another coin person/ dealer I really enjoyed, Tom-B, seems to have just gone "poof". Everyone has there reasons I guess.

I know Doug said I sort of went "poof" around end of 2014, but of course, I'm not a big player like Mark, so only a handful noticed.

You can't really win, if you "announce your departure", you get called out, possibly even harassed for your ego, or people would be suspicious of a sympathy ploy, and if you don't, you leave everyone confused.

I hear you. But this is the thing about Mark's, he was all over NGC. PCGS, too, until they banned him for saying something too real for those weenies.

I don't personally know the gal. I think those that actually do are best qualified to comment.
I remember one dude lots of people sang praises about and he's currently in prison.

I agree. She had a lot of folks giving her a hard time. I stayed out of it but did not care for the way she handled it. She went after some good folks that had nothing to do with here problems. I feel that's where she crossed the line.

Could it have been handled better, certainly as is usually the case. I can understand the frustration where after enough gang up at once someone is bound to get caught in the cross fire. I don't really hold it against people if they come back aggressive when it's clear that's exactly what several people are trying to make them do. It's a shame as there were a lot of honest insights that we now lose out on

I disappear at times from here. Sometimes as life gets in the way or sometimes I get the boot. I have a feeling I’m close to getting the boot again too. I’m not much on cu as I think I’d manage to only last a few days if I got speaking my mind. And believe me I tone it down a lot here usually

I asked him about it at a coin show. He wasn't really specific, just said that his life had changed. And it did change, he changed in many ways, physical appearance, job, attitude, everything basically. When I first saw him, I hardly even recognized him. That's how radical the change was.

As I recall he quit posting on forums about the same time he started working for NGC. He didn't come right out and say he quit posting because he started working there, but he kinda hinted at it a bit.

Over the years we've had quite a few members, even some mods, who quit posting, participating on forums, because of a change in their jobs - they started working for one of the major numismatic companies. NGC, Heritage, PCGS, Stacks, the list goes on. And those that I've specifically asked, again they kinda hinted but wouldn't come right and say it that their present employment was why. And yet others who work at these companies post on forums all the time. So who knows, I certainly don't.

And then ya have people like this guy - @geekpryde You'd be hard pressed to find somebody who was more active in this forum than he was. But one day he just went - poof ! - gone - from the forum. And now, after 5 years, he's back. I know a whole lot more about than anybody than him, always have, but it's up to him to say what he wants. He's already explained a good bit in various posts.

I guess my point is all kinds of people have their own reasons for participation or lack thereof on forums. And those reasons are as widely varied as the people themselves.

I'll say this and maybe others will agree or disagree. But since Hanson got involved with David Lawrence, that dealer has largely priced itself out of my range with nothing but really high-grade offerings for the most part.

Mark's just the kind of guy one notices when he suddenly drops off. I'm glad to hear there's no ill-will and he appears to be doing OK. Thanks for filling me in, Doug.

It was determined by a forum member that their mobile contact link was dialing the wrong number which was one which was busy 24/7. After being alerted to an obvious embarrasing error did the member get a Thank You? Nope, instead got banned.
They did however fix the mistske.

I've visited them a lot lately. It seems rather tame now compared to what (I heard) it had become. I see a few CT. members there, and they are revamping Coin Facts.
A few good threads, but mellow as C.T. right now. :D

Depends who’s working. Just get me going on anything even remotely political and it turns into a problem

They are upping the absurdity and revengeful deletions recently. All it takes is a mere insinuation of being upset about the deletions, censorship, and bannings and you too will be banned. Meanwhile many of the regular posters concerned about being identified as a disloyal or insufficiently grateful, obsequious and sycophantic member on the forum have been falling over one another saying that Brett or Heather have been doing the right thing. Ownership of a public forum with many scholarly members doing substantial and free sharing of their work in numismatics only to find themselves banned really shows poor character on the part of moderators. In the past when I complained about something I thought was a legitimate concern, a moderator contacted me asking if I wanted the poster banned? My guess is certain noisy wealthier members have a lot of power to take out members they don't agree or like. I have never seen such disgusting exercise of censorship when a member gave trivial reasons for someone complaining. Their moderation is very narrow minded and unethical.
