Will someone please give me your opinion, On this coin. I found it in this condition. I've had people tell me it's valuable or well worth keeping. I'm just getting into coins and recently started collecting them. This one seems shiny to be a 1942 penny. What do you all think?
It's a circulated Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent worth two cents at the most. No mintmark on it so it was minted in Philadelphia. You need to purchase R.S. Yeoman's Red Book. It has a lot of great information, just ignore the prices as that is a guide and not reality.
VF20 at best, unattractive with the discoloration...NGC certified population 10 cents but currently selling for 2 cents as mentioned by @Collecting Nut . Having a Red Book is almost a must have for coin enthusiasts...you will see when you get one...Spark
Old wheat back cent with environmental damage. If you like it, keep it. That's kind of the point of collecting. BTW welcome to CT.
@Bamagal1970 It’s always fun to find wheaties in the wild (in circulation) it’s definitely a hole filler should you have a coin folder to put it in. Keep on looking! Reed
Good idea @Spark1951 I think I’m going to have a round up and do catch and release myself! I’ve got a ton of wheaties I’ve gleaned coin roll hunting over the years that would love to roam free again in the wild. Reed.
