I would like to spread my knowledge of ancient coins by going to Phoenician Numismatics for a bit. The facts are sort of scrambled not the web with branch mints, stuff about Carthage, and debates and whatnot. What I really need to start is a list of all the denominations, if there is any, and recommendations where to start learning about them.
Try wild winds, under Greek Phoenicia cities, you could start a list from the coin references, like Shekel, Dishekel, 1/4 shekel, 1/8 shekel, tetradrachm, Diobol, Etc.
I just looked and some of them are : Hemidrachm Drachm Sextans Quadrans - Quarter Unit Shekel 1/2 Shekel 1/4 Shekel 1 1/2 Shekel As - Unit Half Unit 1/12 shekel

Except for the use of the English "grains" instead of grams I don't think the subject is any different today. The ancient economy was changing from measuring silver by weight to coins. It was made up of different ethnic groups with their own market traditions. The economy was also on a "quest" for "bimetallism": coins of gold and silver with an agreed value correspondence while supply and depend fluctuated.
