Well this morning around 8 a.m. I decided to go metal detecting in my back yard for the second time here in Florida and mostly I found aluminum siding pieces again but i did find this one wheat penny so that gives me hope I can find more old coins and here's a pic of the wheat penny I found.

    How old is your home?

Is that Cent dirty? Rinse it with water for a possible date.

Well my home was built in 1973 but before that this entire trailer park was a golf course before that and the golf course is still around but parts of it were sold off for development

Always fun. Nice find. My little brother and I were digging in our backyard when we were very young and found an 1886 Liberty Nickel. There is lots of stuff out there for the finding. Hope you find more and post it.

As a fellow detectorist I promise you you will find coins just about everywhere (especially zincolns). Curbstrips are a great place to find coins as well as other items (I found a pocket watch that has emeralds to mark the hours on the face and tiny dots of gold to mark the minutes). I have found 3 1700s coins so far. A 1718 and 1775 Reales and a 1783 Georvis Triumphos.
So good luck and keep swinging

About 45 years ago we got our oldest son a metal detector for Christmas. We lived in Iowa at the time. Right away he wanted to go out detecting. We told him the ground was frozen and covered with several inches of snow. He went out anyway. A short time later he came in with a beat up 1840 One Cent Piece. It was in one of the flower beds. He has it. If I can get a photo of it I will post here.

Well you're 2 above me the oldest coin I found with my grandfather is a 1795 half cent on his farm in Ohio but that coin was found by 100% pure luck without a metal detector

I kept it for a long time, about 50 years or more. I gave it to him a few years ago when he asked if I still had it. I know he will hand it down to his kids or grandkids.

Ahh it's stories like this that take me back to 1995 when I found my first coin at 5 years old. I was visiting my grandparents at the farm and one of the things me and my sister did back then was pick up rocks out of the driveway and throw em down the hill well on that pictular day I happened to pick up a coin which was under a few rocks and I took in in showing everyone and my grandfather ran it under some water and it turned out to be a 1935 buffalo nickel

Randy took the words out of my mouth when I scrolled down. The nickel is worth a whopping five cents but to you and your brother it's truly priceless. And the story gets better because you gave it to your brother. What a blessing!

Yes, and I tried to find one in similar condition to replace the one we found that was in my collection all those years. I did find one close.

Is that what started your collection?

At 5 years old my aunt gave me an 1885 and an 1883 W/O Cents Liberty Nickel. Got me started.
