Earlier I had asked my friend in Canada if she had any other coins she got from her mother. She sent me some horrible photos of this coin, and this was the best one she took.. I know these are counterfeited, so tell me, is it real or fake? She tells me it appears to be made in pewter. CONT1.jpg cont2.jpg

Looks like a cast replica. You can see the seem line on the edge. Lots of these were made.

Ok thanks! She says it's smooth all the way around, and no line edge in between in the middle. She said it doesn't look like two pieces infused together as in hand there are no lines... I'll attempt to get better rim pics.

It's a copy as stated. The edge shows the cast seams.

Guaranteed modern fake. These are available to tourists in the US. My pic of 4 edges is as follows: 1) Mexican 8R 1768, 2) Genuine Fugio "$" 1776, 3) Mexican 8R 1798, 4) Genuine US $ 1795. 19-Edges 1760-1800.jpg

It is a copy, but a better one than most of the fakes you see.

Thanks for the input. Fake indeed! She sees the seam that was pointed out earlier...
