Some advice and my opinion... Question? Are you looking through coins to make a profit? Most coins in circulation are face value. Many minor mint errors and varieties have very little or no premium at all.. In my 34 Years of collecting mint errors I have done it for the thrill of discovery. I haven't sold even 1 coin during all these years. Do what I did.. Invest in a metal detector. Find some silver coins and precious jewelry. That's where the money is! I have made thousands! You will drive yourself nuts and get depressed or anxious everytime we burst your bubble. I'm 48.. Almost your age. Detecting is fun and a good exercise for people our age!
I do think that's a great idea, and I do have a loner metal detector but it's not the greatest. I leave inbavtown in which a tornado swept through here in 1947 and leveled the town so I thought for sure there's be stuff all over the place but after digging up about a million nails I did in fact get depressed and discouraged.and started focusing on pennies. How much did your metal detector cost you. And what one would you recommend to someone with no income right now. A good one but cheap.and where do you typically metal detect at?
Or if you live in a big city, just keep an eye out on the ground for shiny stuff. I found 3 diamonds, an ounce of srap sterling, and a large solid 14k gold bead in one year of just being aware of shiny stuff on the sidewalk while I walked at work when I lived in a big city. You're right...it's like playing the lottery trying to get something good out of error coin searching. I realized that 10 rolls in! Lol! BUT I came to love the thrill of searching and the hobby itself, so if I ever snag that '69 DDO, it will just be a bonus for me. Metal detecting is something I want to get into! I live too close to the Gulf not to start searching the sands down there.
