Hello I know I have heard about the detached leg of the P,and D 2005 Buffalo Nickel, but has there been any that were found on the S. Might there be a sight I can find out more it would be great also thanks :desk:
I must not have dug deep enough but i cant find an error with a missing leg on a 2005-S however there were errors on the 2005-D with a "spear" going thru the bison's back. but still no missing leg errors for that year, but there was a missing leg error on the 37-D commonly called a 3 legged buffalo nickel.
Thanks for the pictures But I fail to see the answer to my question did I miss somthing or were you just showing me what you own thanks Qwerty1
Too the best of my knowledge there has never even been a missing leg variety of any sort except for the one previously mentioned, so yes your question was answered, you asked if there was a 2005-S nickel error,The only other 2005 coin with a Bison is the Kansas state quarter, and the bison on the coin is shown with 3 legs, with one of the hind leg hidden. So there's nothing wrong with a 3-legged Kansas quarter. The only US coin with a 3-legged bison that's valuable is the 1937D-dated nickel. EDIT: try not too make more than one thread for each topic, it is in the forum etiquette thing. EDIT 2: the link is my signature that has nothing too do with this post, it shows up with every post i make.
With the more modern coins, people come up with all sorts of names for them that are not entirely accurate - like this coin you ask about qwerty. For the most part, there's not much to it. Yes, people called it the detached leg because they were trying to generate interest in them so they could sell them for outlandish premiums. But the coin has never been recognized as a legitimate error or variety. It was due to either weak strike, minor die polishing or a grease filled die - not sure if anybody ever came up with a definitive answer. Whether it ever existed on S mint coins or not I cannot say. But for the most part it pretty much faded away when folks realized it was just hype and not really an error or variety.
